    Good Drinks, Good People

    Provided by

I came here on a whim one Saturday night with a handful of friends who were fried after finals. One friend was actually getting over stomach flu at the time but a total trooper in coming out, so in honor of her feeling less than great, we all dressed a little down in jeans and hoodies. Surprisingly, this wasn't much of a problem when we got into the Library Bar. The bar was pretty active when we got inside. It's spacious too so it didn't seem crowded and it was easy to find a comfortable couch. Bartenders were friendly and we were all pretty happy with our drinks. There was also a really friendly atmosphere that I liked, where you could talk and have fun with total strangers or keep it a little more tight-knit with your own group if you wanted. A cool place to hang out overall and a watering hole that can appeal to a lot of different people.

    Rude bartender!

    Provided by

I showed up last Friday to meet some co workers after our holiday party. They had already been there, and sure they had spend enough money, this place isnt very cheap. Sure its nice, but what came next, made it such an ugly place for me. I got my first beer, wasnt even halfway with it, when the bartender came to our group and told us to ""TONE IT DOWN""!\r We were having fun like everyone else was in the place, and he approached us to tell us that, as a paying customer, I was certainly ticked off at the fact that everyone else surrounding us was doing the exact same thing we were, I looked around at the whole crowd to see what we were doing wrong, I came to the conclusion that the only thing that was wrong is that we were the only Mexican crowd in the place. We finished our beers, and decided to go to nearby Casey's. Not once, were we told to ""TONE IT DOWN""! Is this the way Downtown is trying to be successful, with places like this one?! Sorry but I will never go back to this place, or recommend it to anyone!

    Great Happy Hour; Cozy Vibe

    Provided by

I like the happy hour choice of $5 margaritas or martinis. It gets pretty crowded on a Thursday with all the downtown people coming in for drinks after work. It is pretty crowded at the bar so it takes a while to get a drink but overall it is a good spot to hang out with your friends. Get there early to save a spot on the couches near the fireplace.

    small and intimate.

    Provided by

The library bar is in a great location. You have other options to choose from including The Standard across the street, Elevate Lounge around the corner, etc.\r \r inside is very intimate, not incredibly small. though i'm not an avid reader, the book section was very good. Too bad the bar is too dimly lit to read.\r \r I give their restrooms an +A for cleanliness and desgin. The one thing i found interesting the most is that you have to order your food from next door, which is wolfgang puck. you call them, tell them you're next door, and they'll bring you your food. \r \r other than that, it's a cool bar. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but it's always an option if you run out of options

    timing is everything

    Provided by

After work there are a lot of the older business folks in here, and later at night there are a lot of dudes that couldn't get into the standard. I liked this place before all of the downtown male population discovered the undiscerning door policy, and I stopped liking it when I realized all of them had just come to oogle the bartenders. The crowd is really what keeps this place down; last time I was here, there was a couple sleeping in the back room (the one with a mirror on the ceiling). I love the jukebox though, and I feel like every time I'm here, someone plays Roxanne.

    wine list? who needs it?

    Provided by

I will be honest: I don't usually pick beer as my drink of choice when I go to a bar. In fact, I wouldn't usually stop at a place like this, being slightly intimidated by its mature, business-man style look. However, a couple of my friends work downtown and invited me out for dinner and drinks after work, suggesting we try Library Bar because they had heard so much about it, and one of them had gone for a beer tasting event there. \r \r Needless to say, I am glad I went. I discovered some ""feminine"" beers and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was quiet enough to sit down and talk... in fact, there was a little nook of couches and books we sat in.. it felt comfortable and perfect after a day at work. \r \r I made it sound like all they had was beer... this is incorrect. Along with their extensive beer list they had a collection of cutely named cocktails... one was called ""the WIlly Wonka""... very cute. I am happy I had this experience here and would definitely go back.

Almost as many beers as books!

    Provided by

I just checked out Library Bar last Sat., and I have to say it's one of the new favorites personally. For anyone who appreciates the finer beers, this is it. Arrogant Basterd, Chimay, Three Philosopher's etc. You have to check out the list. It's like a mashup between BevMo and the library. They've got seats and booths with walls lined with all kinds of books to browse through. One of the servers was a little slower in identifying just which beers I wanted to try, but she was probably new. And, all of the the staff was very friendly and glad to help. I wish all libraries were like this!

    More More More.....

    Provided by

Library Bar is one of those cool types of places that keep you wanting more. You walk into the sultry atmosphere where a beautiful ""Tyson"" look a like checks to see your legal status. Depending on when you go, you can find a laywer that needs to get the edge off, a salesman who is ""here on business"", or a local who finds knitting and sipping on a single malt at the Library is what fills her needs. \r The Bartenders will guide you into finding the best thirst quencher to suit your taste buds. You can order your martini shaken not stirred, but you can get that anywhere; at the Library Bar the beer list is what you want to go for. Anything from a nice Russian Stout to a sweet smokey lager is what you find here. Ladies if beer isn't your ""thing"" don't fret, they have a nice Apple Ale that is sure to change your mind. \r Once you decided on your drink for the moment you can slip into one of the many comfortable spots they have set up...even a semi private room with plush velvet seating. The music is up to you since they have set up an amazing juke box with an nice selection that will suit all tastes.\r Having been there on several different nights and times, I can say that it is always a new and great experience. If you're lucky you'll even get to meet one of the owners, who is too hot for words! \r For me, it keeps me coming back for more, and more, and more.

    EXCELLENT BARTENDERS - AWESOME BAR

    Provided by

I went here with a friend on feb 16 (fri) and had a rockin time. I heard all about this place and had to come see for myself. It is unlike any other bar in town. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful when it came to choosing my ale. It got really crowded and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I highly rec. this place it's a nice escape from the hollywood bar scene.

cozy, but not too small, upscale bar for downtown grownups.

    Provided by

i love this bar. after visiting all the echo park/silverlake nouveau-mullet hipster bars, this is refreshingly grown up and sophisticated. great bartenders, an intimate feel with lots of places to sit, drink and converse. i will be a regular here.

    Very cool atmosphere

    Provided by

This place recently opened and it seems to be popular already amongst the downtown happy hour crowd, we actually left last night because it was too crowded. The bar is solid marble, all the seating is very comfortable and the TV is not the prominent feature which is so rare. The beer selection is top notch but not very wide. Service is great if you are sitting at the bar, but drops off dramatically the further you get from the bartenders. Overall this is our new favorite bar downtown, just wish they had a smoking patio.
