General Info:

Katsuya Brentwood, named “Best New Restaurant” by Travel & Leisure in 2007, represents the prodigious pairing of the supreme talents of master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi and world-renowned designer Philippe Starck. Chef Uechi, whom Angeleno Magazine named “Chef of the Year” in 2006, unleashes his culinary artistry with a menu of innovative sushi and robata dishes, served in a sleek, “wooden bento box” setting that is supremely Starck. Combining the service and quality of a fine dining restaurant with the lively energy and casual vibe of a neighborhood hotspot, Katsuya Brentwood has quickly become the place for Angelenos and visitors alike. As Food & Wine described, it is truly “one of the most exciting restaurants to open in Los Angeles in years.”

Was very disappointed with the service that we got. We had reservations for 9pm took them half an hour to sit us down. At dinner I ordered a fountain drink and it was brought to me after I finished my dinner, when told the waitress I don't want it anymore since I'm done with dinner she said, " oh yeah that took long" and was still charged for the drink.

I dig it.

Used to come here for social events but haven't been in a while. The food is solid, the wait staff on point and isn't too stuffy and snotty. A good mix of crowd and a staff that make you feel welcome. I've never been for dinner only had drinks and appetizers but it's on my list of must do. If you haven't - you should.

This place is LEGIT

Stopped in here earlier this week for dinner. Taking in the neighborhood, I was expecting a bevy of rail thin waifs to be overpopulating the bar, but the original Katsuya has quite a different vibe from its neighbors or even its Hollywood counterpart. The atmosphere was relaxed and very easygoing, no bumpin' club music or rush to be escorted out of the place. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the food, as expected, was top notch. This time I opted for something warm and settled for the shrimp tobanyaki, which was great. They really do their hot stuff just as well as their trademark sushi (which I dabbled in, couldn't resist a scallop roll). I don't make it out to the Brentwood area often, but next time I do, I think I've found my new local spot. 5 stars.
