I don't normally feel compelled to write reviews but after reading Indian1313's ""Worse Indian Food in LA"" review I feel compelled to encourage everyone to give this great ""hole in the wall"" place a try. I've been going to Chutney's for about 10 years now. It has a great long term reputation, and they are probably your best bet for fast Pakistani and north Indian cuisine food in West LA. The owners are Pakistani, and actually work in the restaurant. I am South Asian and generally find Pakistani and Indian food in LA to be atrocious, and only slightly less so in OC. The best ""desi"" food is on the East Coast and Chicago. At Chutney's, the chicken roll is great fast food option. They most definitely use a tandoori oven, and have genuine tandoori naan.

The food was not amazingly tasty or spicy, but I liked the fact they were super economic and good for everyday indian food. The food was like ""indian mom cooking style"" and was impressed was options and quick service. The vegetable specials are great and I am really filling. I would suggest taking the ""raita/curd"" in addition as well. It is definitely one of the Indian places I often would like to go to
usually for quick lunch meal.

The service is fine, the place is clean, parking is no problem and the location is convenient. BUT, the food at this restaurant is absolutely horrible. I'm Indian, yet have tolerance for some forms of Americanized Indian food... however, this food was not only inauthentic, but it had no taste and was purely bad. For starters, the staff there is not Indian at all. When I asked them what the curries were, they described them in English, but when I asked if something was ""chana masala"" for example, they were clueless. The naan is actually pita bread, the curries and chutnies are so watery, and the appetizers are all poorly made. I was expecting an average place, but got extremely below average food here. I never usually write reviews, but I wanted to write this one, because I would hate for the average LA resident to go to this place and be turned off on Indian food (because I guarantee that you will). Indian food is amazing. This place does NOT represent Indian food. Please don't visit this place. Please don't.

If you don't want to spend too much money and still want decent indian food, then this is the place. It isn't all as fresh as it could be, but for the price you pay you get more than it's worth. There is flavor and the chicken is SO tasty. Their saag could use a little more flavor, but overall this is a great option for fast indian food on the fly. Make sure you get some of their rice with you dish and a samosa!!

Chutney's is a no frills ""hole in the wall"" stop-shop with quick cheap eats. You get what you pay for here, except for one unforgettable dish. Hands down the BEST place in town for bhoti kabab (amazingly seasoned lamb)--knowing desis order it for pickup. Their mango lassi and tandoori chicken will satisfy your cravings too, but not ""hitt the spot"" like higher priced, better serviced restaurants. With it's mini-mall/side seat location, this is definitely not a 'dine-in' kinda joint, and VEGETARIANS BEWARE---all non-animal dishes are pretty horrible, right down to the samosas and veggie sides. For high-protein dieters, grille aficionados, and meatheads however, Chutney's tandoori is right up your alley. BHOTI KABAB NOT TO BE MISSED! Just get your sidedishes elsewhere.

Arrogant and disrespectful staff. First, they were late in producing the food. Then, they got the order wrong, overcharged me and refused to fix the mistake. To top it all off, the spiteful employee intentionally delayed refunding my money and starting helping the people behind me. I've never experienced such horrendous customer service. If you're looking to be mocked, this is your place.

My Indian friend swears they don't cook with a lot of the butter, cream, and fat typically found in most Indian eateries, and their frequent use of their tandoori oven is testament to that...and their food still tastes awesome! Great combo sets for under $7 and really quick service. Mango Lassie is only $1.75, which is half the price of most restaurants and tastes even better.
