The Original Pho in Koreatown. I went to this place a couple of times in 1998. It was different than the regular Vietnamese Pho restaurant in Chinatown, Monterey Park, Alhambra and other place where the Vietnamese were at. But in Koreatown, the Vietnamese did not got a foot hold here yet. This was the Original Pho restaurant in Koreatown, owned and operated by Koreans. It was similar to the Vietnamese Pho but has it's own originality that suit the Korean taste. And after having had Vietnamese Pho Vietnamese style, it is interesting to try it different style the Korean way. But after the couple of time I went to this restaurant, for some reasons the place just got too busy with no room for parking. Being that it is too crowded for me to find parking and I am not going to fight tooth & nail to find parking just to get a bowl of Pho, Thus I did not came here again. And now I wonder if it was the swarming tactics used by some business to keep customers away from a competitor business, thus keeping me away from this O.G. Korean Pho Restaurant. In any case I stop eating here and later notice that there are Vietnamese Pho restaurants, owns by Vietnamese and not Korean, popping up all over Koreatown. So if you want to eat Pho in Koreatown and want to get a feel of Korea, go tho this Pho restaurant in Koreatown. There are others Pho restaurants in Koreatown that has reviewers who are shills that say they are own by korean such as Pho 2000, but it is a lies. The only O.G. Korean Pho restaurant that I know first hand is this restaurant. If you are going to be in Koreatown, then eat at this OG Korean Pho.

Well, isn't this a surprise? Not that having a good sushi bar in a mini mall is surprising in L.A. The surprise is that it took me so long to try it out - and that it was actually good. I'll have to hit it up a few more times to give it a really well rounded review, but here's what I'll say: the fish is very fresh, and they have a huge assortment of rolls, and the usual sashimi, et al. At one of my fave sushi joints, I always ask for a rainbow roll, but request that they just use salmon. Miyako actually has this roll on the menu. And when you ask for some edamame, they come to your table with a fresh, steaming hot *enormous* pile of said dish, nicely salted. That is *so* much better than the usual cold and tasteless edamame that I frequently run into elsewhere. The service was a bit shaky, only because the waitress had started her new career just five minutes before I walked in the door. She actually didn't know what edamame was - we both had the manager come over, who looked terribly embarrassed, but quickly resolved the situation. The dishes arrived out of order, but they were all so good that I didn't care. It's walking distance from home, so ... I'm very happy.
Blue Hen is not your typical Vietnamese Pho shop. Their menu isn't as deep as the traditional Vietnamese noodle houses, but they do have pho (noodle soup), bun (dry noodle salad in a bowl), and banh (vietnamese sandwiches). There are also spring rolls, curry, and interestingly enough ... french fries, which looked REALLY good. Most of the items on the menu are Organic Chicken, but they always seem to have a special Organically Grass Fed beef. They also have cold or hot Vietnamese coffee was nice and strong, just as it should be. I would have loved a larger portion of the vegitables, but it was definitely enough food for lunch. Although the location is in a strange little strip mapp, the interior decor is very 'hip' and not like a traditional 'sticky table' Vietnamese noodle shop. There are drawings from the customers decorating the walls that provide a unique atmosphere. As far as service, it was definitely acceptable. It wasn't warmy and fuzy, but not terrible as some of the other reviewers had mentioned. I'd definitely go back and recommend it to others for a good healthy meal!
