2010 Picazo Merlot - Gold Medal Winner

They're Ruby Hill's little secret. The Picazos also market their own label. Wine Profile: Tasting Notes: This wine shows bright cherry plum and nutmeg flavors and aromas. A rich palate with high acidity, ample tannins and oak character are balanced to age nicely. With hints of leather and clove on the finish, it is a great sipping wine. Awards: Double Gold - National Women's Wine Competition Critics Gold - Critics Challenge. Vineyard Notes: In the foothills of southern Livermore sits the gently sloping Picazo Vineyard, where Pam and Jose Picazo have been tending their vines since 2004. Their vines produce magnificent fruit as well as a welcome sanctuary for local wildlife. At dawn and dusk, deer, foxes and coyotes routinely wander among the vines while hawks and eagles circle the skies above. Production Notes: Hand-harvested when fruit is fully ripe & cool. 2010 Madden Ranch Syrah
Wine Specs: Vintage - 2010; Varietal - Syrah; Appellation - Livermore Valley; Vineyard Designation - Madden Ranch; Alcohol% - 15. Factoid: One of the highest and steepest vineyards in the valley, making a high-acid wine. Will age, soften, and become more lively in bottle. Wine Profile: Tasting Notes: This Syrah has a bright acidity with ample blueberry, plum and red cherry aromas. The wine has toasty, spicy oak notes, expressed on the nose and finish. On the palate, there are pleasant earthy notes and some minerality. Awards: Gold Medal - Romancing the Rhones/Rhone Shootout Competition, 2014. Vineyard Notes: Hugging the wind-swept hillsides of the Altamont Pass, the vineyard is so steep that water runs off quickly and the vines struggle to survive. This struggle pays off splendidly and the resulting grapes are both complex and intense. The intensity is what Virginia and John Madden (yes, that John Madden) demand of their signature vineyard. The topography of the land also allows for multiple microclimates, allowing the Maddens to experiment with various sustainable growing practices. Production Notes: An early ripener, this grape was hand-harvested at night the 1st or 2nd week of Sept. Cold soaked 2-3 days to extract color. 2010 Crown Block Red Wine - The 15th Anniversary of our Original Wine
Wine Specs: Vintage - 2010; Appellation - Livermore Valley; Vineyard Designation - Crown Block; Bottling Date - July 23, 2013; Alcohol% 14.5. Wine Profile: Tasting Notes: This Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc is a complex, full-bodied wine blended entirely from Darcie's own Crown Block Vineyard. The wine exhibits flavors and aromas of dark cherry, plum and tobacco with an oaky finish. After aging for 32 months in the barrel and a few years in the bottle, it can be enjoyed now or can be laid down in the cellar for further rewards. Awards: SILVER MEDAL - 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Vineyard Notes: Grown on the southwest facing "Crown Block" of David and Darcie Kent's Crane Ridge estate vineyard, which at 800 feet above sea level, drains in all four directions of the compass. Wine Profile: Tasting Notes: This is a fruit-forward Pinot Noir with flavors of red cherry, currant and fresh raspberries. Hints of cedar, rosemary, and pepper aromas fairly compliment this complex, juicy wine. Medium-bodied, good round tannins will let it age graciously for the next seven to eight years. Production Notes: Hand-picked, night harvested, and field blended. Gentle sorted, prior and after destemming. Long, cold soaked 3-4 days, with a moderate 10-day fermentation.
