This is the best Jkd school, without a doubt. The instructors are top notch under Sifu Dino and the atmosphere is friendly and filled with good people who will help you learn. Highly recommend it.

I highly recommend New York Martial Arts Academy to anyone who is interested in learning Bruce Lee's JKD. Its the only true JKD school around.Having been to other martial arts schools in the past, New York Martial Arts Academy is by far the best. All the instructors are very knowledgable and passionate about JKD. Not only do you get a great physical workout while training here, but you really learn to understand and appreciate the art and brilliance of Bruce Lee.

This is the place to be if you want to learn true Jeet Kune Do from a knowledged, friendly and professional atmosphere! With a background in military and law enforcement, I found the training not only teaches self-defense but also the physics, kinesiology, and history behind the art of JKD. The instructors are always willing to help and all the students are friendly making a comfortable training environment. There are morning and evening classes available to fit into anyone's busy schedule. NY Martial Arts Academy is like my second home and I am proud to be a member.

I would recommend this JKD martial arts school to anyone who is interested in becoming a better martial artist. I have been training for a couple of years now and I know that I will be doing this for many more years. I feel very comfortable and right at home. Every single instructor has atleast ten years of experience and that says alot about a martial arts school.

NY Martial Arts Academy is by far the best school teaching authentic Jeet Kune Do. The instructors as well as all the students are very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this school! I have been training at this school for a few years and absolutely love it.

I have been training at NY Martial Arts Academy for the last couple of years after several years of traditional martial arts training in another school. I made the switch and came to NY Martial Arts Academy to learn real Jeet Kune Do and have been really impressed with the quality of instruction. Dino Orfanos is the head instructor with 35+ years experience and teaches nearly all of the adult classes. I am able to train in as many classes as I want a week and also get to attend all the specialty classes to including their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program. This school is incredible and one that I highly recommend.

I have been a student of NYMAA for a few months. In my opinion, this school is very well-run. Sifu Dino Orfanos teaches many of the classes himself, which is a testament to his dedication to the advancement of his students.

I have a few years of past karate training under my belt and I do find the JKD principles taught at NYMAA to be much more efficient and more tailored to actual combat situations on the street. The school also offers specialized classes such as grappling, trapping, footwork, kickboxing and knife-fighting. All students, after one month of initial instruction are encouraged to take these specialized classes, without any additional cost. These specialized classes offer even more in-depth training in each area. Sifu Dino has repeatedly told us that students must come in and train often. The school is open six days a week and students are encouraged to take as many classes as they can, again, at no additional cost.

The school is very professional and the students are very respectful and intelligent. When an individual comes in to the school with an interest in enrolling, he does not automatically get a contract placed in front of him. Sifu Dino personally goes through an orientation session with the individual so as to make sure that the student will be right for the school. In other words, the school only enrolls students who Sifu Dino believes can contribute positively to the experience of the school and its students. This means, no meathead street toughs need apply. All the students here are very friendly and helpful. When I make an error, such as incorrect form, other students voluntarily help and correct me, which I greatly appreciate.

Furthermore, as a response to a negative comment posted recently on this site, nothing can be further from the truth. The costs are very affordable and worth every penny. The equipment also costs less than what was posted by the commenter. This school, in my opinion, is worth every penny.

Incidentally, I also have my two kids enrolled in this school. They’re in the Young Dragon’s class. Both my kids love the classes and they have benefited immensely from the instruction. Some skills taught are stance, kicking, punching, trapping, nunchaku (foam/training) use, etc. From an intrinsic perspective, I can certainly see the children’s classes contribute to self-defense, self-confidence, self-discipline and respect.

This is not a sales pitch. I get nothing from posting my opinion. I simply tell it like it is. This school is a very worth-while investment of time, sweat and effort. I highly recommend this school, both for adults and children.

As a proud student of NYMAA there is not much to say about this poster, other than that his comments are far from the truth. It is obvious that he has a burning animosity towards NYMAA, for reasons unknown. Perhaps physically he could not perform properly which has caused him a great deal of frustration, or maybe he was just not intelligent enough. By reading through his post, it's obvious that he barely graduated elementary school.

That alone is reason enough to ignore everything he claimed. If your not intelligent enough to write a coherent paragraph , then your sure not intelligent enough to do a martial art that actually requires the use of your brain.

I have signed multiple contracts with Sifu Dino, and no fee's or prices were hidden. Everything was explained up front , and clearly. NYMAA is more than a school, but a family. I am glad that this poster has left the school because NYMAA is not a school for negative, unintelligent youths. He claims that one should do research on a school's instructors, and that's probably the only good advice he gave. Come stop by NYMAA, talk to Sifu Dino, listen and see his credentials, (aside from being an instructor under Sifu Ted Wong and Sifu Chris Kent). NYMAA hides nothing. It is a place of integrity, something Jacob clearly lacks.

About 6 months ago, I was where you are right now...wondering if I should try classes at NYMAA. Although it had been a few years, I had had extensive training in other martial arts (Japanese and Okinawan karate and wing chun kung fu). Coming from a tradtional background, I was a bit skeptical of some of the so-called "JKD" or "mixed martial arts" schools because I was concerned that they would be full of thugs looking to show the world how tough they were.



Nothing could be further from the truth! From my first experience at the school, I was hooked. Sifu Orifinos teaches nearly every class personally (something very rare for a martial artist of his accomplishment). The classes are a great balance of intense workout, technique refinement and philosophy (Bruce Lee was an accomplished philosopher as well as martial artist). The students are great people; dedicated to developing their art and themselves.



Sifu Orifinos teaches authentic JKD as was intended by Bruce Lee. JKD is NOT a mixed martial art! Bruce didn't simply combine everything to create JKD...he did the opposite! He "hacked away at the inessentials" until he had developed a "simple, direct and non-classical" art. So in in true JKD, we don't learn dozens of flashy techniques. Instead we refine the body mechanics of a relative few to the point of mastery AND learn how to apply them effectively. Learning JKD is a true challenge for Body, Mind and Spirit.

I had researched other types of martial arts schools but none of them grasped me the way the curriculum at NYMAA did, the workouts are challenging, the sparring is challenging, the instructors are excellent and helpful to each student.

True JKD has totality and therefore gives you the ability to adjust to any opponents style or other martial arts. I believe this makes it the best art for self defense. I recommend this school.

After having researched many different schools and disciplines of martial arts and having no previous experience as a martial artist I decided to give the New York Martial Arts Academy a try. This school teaches the authentic teachings of Bruce Lee and does not do what many other schools do which is combine different arts and call it Jeet Kune Do, Sifu Dino is an exceptional instructor and makes everyone feel at ease while having you push your body to the limit and having fun in the process. It has been almost a year since I started training and I have never felt better. All the students are a great group of people who support and help each other.

The New York Martial Arts Academy is the best environment to learn and train in any martial art that I have ever found in twenty years of looking. Besides the fact that it is the only place in the area that teaches the authentic teachings of Bruce Li, the school blends a training of the physical, the philosophical, discipline, and comradeship in a more comprehensive and integrated way than I have ever seen. And the skill of the Sifu, Dino Orfanos, as both a martial artist and a teacher is exemplary. A rare martial arts school for the mind, body, and soul!

If you want to learn how to prepare for real combat on the streets, this is the school to go to. The school gives great workouts. NYMAA separates itself from most traditional schools because of it's emphasis on footwork and body mechanics There is plenty of pad-work and sparring, which will get you in great shape, both mentally and physically. The students learn how to fight efficiently and intelligently. It has a great atmosphere and friendly encouraging students.

New York Martial Arts Academy is an incredible training facility for the whole family. Sifu Dino is an exceptionally talented martial artist who teaches Jeet Kune Do the right way--not by putting several different arts together and just calling it Jeet Kune Do as they do at most other schools. This is authentic Jeet Kune Do based on the original teachings of Bruce Lee and from what I have found, the only school of its kind in the entire NYC area.



Sifu Dino's 35 years of high level martial art training show on and off the training floor. He has truly created a comfortable training environment for all ages and levels that gets real world, street applicable results not to mention an incredible workout! The students are also really nice people and are always very supportive of one another. I highly recommend this school to anyone (men, women, & children) that is interested in getting in shape, learning about martial arts, or just looking to feel better about yourself.
