Even though this was a bittersweet trip we did have a lot of fun going to Lincoln, NE. What helped the trip was knowing we were staying at a excellent hotel and Residence Inn By Marriott was the place. Check in was easy, the entrance doors were double so easy to get in with a wheelchair. Even though they put us in the wrong room, we were supposed to be in a room with a roll in shower. The staff quickly noticed the mistake and promptly corrected the error and put us in the correct room. The staff was very friendly and talkative when we would leave, getting a meal, and when coming back in. The hotel provided breakfast which offered a wide variety of items that were very yummy. Monday thru Thursday the hotel has theme night social time, which can be BBQ night to comfort food night. The hotel was very clean and very well kept. Our room was amazing, it was a 2 bedroom with a kitchenette suite. Christopher and Jonathan were very happy on having their own room, bathroom, and tv. Jodi and I were happy as well to have our own space. When we needed more towels, coffee, and even Christopher's favorite...the free microwave popcorn the staff was quick to bring them So when your planning your next trip make sure you stop in at Residence Inn put your feet up and let them take care of your R&R needs. I know Residence Inn will be our place to stay on our next trip. http://familyfriendlyoutings.blogspot.com/
THE place for steak and lobster in Lincoln! The place is showing it's age, but the low lights and atmosphere make up for a much needed make over. The most striking thing about Misty's (on Havelock only!) is the service. The same folks have been there for years and they make you feel like you're the most important person in there. Besides the great service, their kitchen staff are awesome. I've never had a steak prepared incorrectly, and the lobster is done to perfection, moist and perfectly cooked. Just about every other place in Lincoln that serves lobster over cooks it and ruins it. This is a place that you hope will never change (other than a little new paint and carpet!) and stays open until I have to have a bypass and give up red meat! My only complaint is the augratin potatoes are sometimes not hot, and the Alfredo sauce isn't a classic Alfredo. There are added ingredients that don't add to the flavor of the dish. Real Alfredo is cream, Parmigiana cheese, and butter. Nothing else. Except maybe garlic. Don't fix what ain't broke guys! Otherwise Misty's is one of our favorite Lincoln restaurants. As for the downtown location, the kitchen staff are great there too, but the servers and bar staff ruin it. Too many college kids who don't care are running the place. Fire all of them and hire older servers who know how to work a table.
When Dino's first opened I was hoping Lincoln would finally have a great Italian restaurant. Nope. A bar that's too much of a restaurant, and a restaurant that's mainly just glorified bar food. Since the focus is mainly food, it's not really a good place to go just for drinks. The family atmostphere really sucks the life out of having a good time. I had the spaghetti and meatballs my first time there, and it wasn't bad for canned sauce and frozen meatballs. My wife and I shared two different pizzas the last time we went, and they were excellent, but a bit pricey. I guess we're paying for the atmosphere. Service was excellent too, with our orders mostly correct, and immediate attention to a couple of minor errors. I notice they're looking for an executive chef. They need someone who can convince them to do it right. Make in house Italian with fresh ingredients. Do that, and all of Lincoln's east side will be yours. They do a booming business now since that side of town is a kind of food desert. But bring up the level of the food, and it could be wonderful. Come on Dino's, show us what you got!
