Mr Hui'ssmirkingcoyote rated

I "happened" upon this restaurant quite by accident but am I glad I did! I'm originally from San Francisco and grew up a block away from China Town. Since moving to Nebraska I've found it very difficult to find ANY authentic Chinese food restaurants. Most of the Ch...moreinese restaurants here the food is bland, mushy, the recipes are compromised (in order to appeal to a more "steak and potato" palate I would guess) and many time honored dishes are not even on the menu! NOT SO MR. HUI'S! I was driving home last week and happened to see Mr. Hui's sitting back a bit in the small shopping center on the corner of 33rd and Cornhusker. I thought I'd just check out their menu (just in CASE they had something that resembled real Chinese food) and much to my surprise I saw TAIWANESE/CHINESE FOOD listed! For a moment I could not believe my eyes! I did a double take and then thought, "Could it BE??!?!" I ran in, sat down and ordered...When the food arrived it was as if a piece of Chinatown had come to great me! The food is FABULOUS! The service is great as well! If you've not eaten Taiwanese before, ask your server for a suggestion. They're eager to help and make your dining experience a memorable and happy one. I knew I was in for a treat when one of the waiters asked me if this was my first time at Mr. Hui's and when I replied, "Yes it is," he got a huge, proud smile on his face and said, "You will love the food here!" He was right! I'll be back alright! As a matter of fact, I've already been back twice since finding the place a week ago! If you want authentic Chinese food, GO TO MR. HUI'S! view less

Yiayia's Pizza Beer & Winecriticaleater rated
Crappy Bartenders

I don't know what it is about Yiayias bartenders but it seems to be a requirement to be lazy, uninformed and annoying, and look like you sleep under a bridge. Like the other reviewer said, they have exactly no knowledge of the beer selection. The response to my asking for a c...moreertain beer is "Do you see it anywhere man?". I'm not there for a hunting expedition! I'm there to have a drink and have someone other than myself fetch it. What part of that is complicated? They need a alphabetized list so they can find a beer fast. Since the owner is a very nice guy who cares about his business I don't know why he lets this go on unless these people just intimidate him, or he's had so much worse that he's settled on devils he knows instead of devils he doesn't know. As for table service, forget it. If you sit at a table you can count on getting your own beer. That said, the pizza there is pretty good. The vegetarian selections are great and very tasty, especially since I'm not a vegetarian, I just got stuck eating there with one! The one thing I do not understand though is the piece of crusty bread with the pizza. What the heck is that all about? Lincoln is the only place I've ever seen this done. Put more topping on the pizza's and scrap the unnecessary bread. If you're old you will feel very old and out of place here. This is the hangout of the tatted up and pierced crowd and to be over 25 in here will make you feel your age. Go anyway, drink some of their great imported (but overpriced) beers, and make them uneasy. It's your life too! view less

Isles Pub & Pizzadekay11 rated
Best Pizza in the metro

Isles Pizza is probably one of the best-kept secrets in the Lincoln metro. Their pizza is fabulous regardless of which type you get; however I'm partial to their \"Leaning Tower of Pizza,\" the name for their own super combination. Their pizza crust is very much like Val...moreentino's USED to be; that is before they got so large and automated. Their biggest drawbacks are: 1) they don't deliver (unless you have it delivered by Metro Dining Delivery), and 2) they have limited hours. Remember too that the Isles is for the most part a pub and not primarily a pizza restaurant, so the atmosphere definitely reflects that. If you get a pizza from the Isles, you definitely won't be disappointed! view less
