Naismith Hall

Naismith Hall is by far the best value at KU for college residents. They offer the best amenities and the lowest rate room & board rates. I love having housekeeping vacuum and clean my bathroom once a week (yes I can be lazy), you won't get that at any other residence hall. The food, what a great variety. I absolutely love the salad bar. The resident advisors are so helpful and the rest of the staff are so easy to talk to if there is any problems. Nasmith is the only place to live as a KU student.

I lived at Naismith Hall my freshman year, and I found it to be one of the best housing options at KU for the most reasonable price. The rooms are plenty spacious and the housecleaners are wonderful individuals and do their job very well. I was never disappointed with the quality or the variety of food, and I would happily recommend this housing to any prospective students.

During the 2012-2013 student year, Naismith had new management. Two years prior our son was in the dorm and had a great experience, so we felt our daughter would also like the dorm. We were shown a newly remodeled dorm which convinced us that this WAS the place for her. However, before we even arrived, her new roommate decided not to live with her and she was quickly assigned someone new. When we arrived the dorm room was filthy...large stains and crusted dirt on the carpet, the bathroom had mold and mildew around the tub and shower with caulking missing, the suspended ceiling in the bathroom falling down. The RA that did the walk through with us was disrespectful arguing that the place was clean and that didn't have mold and mildew. We immediately met with the manager, Amy to request she walk through the place with us and a maintenance man. Both admitted the room hadn't been cleaned and promised repairs to the caulking and ceiling that have NEVER BEEN TAKEN CARE OF.



There were issues with her roommate that strained the relationship and we were told to work through the RA who was NOT responsive. We elevated the situation to Amy who wanted to see "who things played out." Things became so strained that we threatened to move her and finally they agreed that if she could find another roommate she could move. My daughter quickly found another roommate and moved. For the past 6 months, my daughter and her roommate, as well as both sets of parents have complained about the noise and disorderly boys living next door. The girls have to call down to the front desk up to 4 times a night when the boys come home drunk and turn their stereos on full blast. They keep filing complaints and most don't seem to get recorded. We keep hearing that they will take care of it and yet for 6 months nothing has changed.



My daughter has been very depressed over the situation so I sent her a perishable care package. The instructions on the package were very clear, that the delivery was to a dormitory and as such they were to leave the package at the front desk, requesting that the front desk notify my daughter upon delivery. The package was also marked "Perishable - Refrigerate". A note was left in my daughter's mail box and several days went by until she checked for her mail. I paid almost $30 to have the package delivered only to have it rot in the storeroom.



I would NEVER recommend this dorm to anyone. I can't even find a way to reach the corporate headquarters to complain and Amy is of no value. Do NOT have your children stay there. My daughter won't be returning to KU next year and the Naismith experience is a major reason why she's made this decision.
