Upon moving to Vegas, I looked online for places of worship that weren't denominational, that accepted everyone and hopefully was not weird! One click leads to another and I ended up with my husband (half willingly tagging along) at Easter Sunday service. Coming from a theatre background, when we stood up and sang "In Your Easter Bonnet" following the lyrics on two large screens, I knew I was at a special place. Reverend Cynthia spoke and she was warm, authentic, not "preachy" and certainly laughing at her own flaws. She has an incredible gift for getting an original message across in an inspired, wonderful way. There was a fantastic singer and continues to be different professional singers every Sunday. I've heard great Broadway songs like "Climb Every Mountain" to original songs that are all inspirational and uplifting. One of the best things about the Center is the courses they offer, lead by inspirational, non-judgmental, uplifting teachers who dig inside to solve problems and help get you back on track, whatever that track might be. There's also a great small bookstore and the opportunity to get an instant CD of the service for only five dollars. The Center follows the teachings of Ernest Holmes, a brilliant man, along with Jesus, Buddha and many other spiritual gurus that have walked our Earth. I connected with the philosophy that God is alive in all of us and is not some bearded man above the stars. God wants the best for us including good health, wealth in all areas and success. Gratitude is immensely important and they follow the law of; you must give to receive and forgive to be forgiven. God wants us to find our talent and do our life's work with joy. Nothing is impossible. The hour or so at the Center is not for sissies. There are boxes of Kleenex scattered about. You will get touched in places in your heart and soul that perhaps you were trying to forget about. You will be inspired by great stories and song. You will be encouraged to face your authentic self and for many, that is a scary place to go. No one at the Center judges or stuffs this philosophy down your throat; it's just there for the taking. If you are open you will see that God is everywhere, there for all and doesn’t discriminate. You are empowered through prayer, meditation, and that Universal Love superhighway. Ask and you shall receive. There's magic in Vegas and it's not just on the Strip.
In a city such as Las Vegas, there are many that would say that the concept of Art is a dying breed; no matter the medium. With all the muss and fuss of everything that seems to be going on (and with the lure of all of the Casinos in this city) who would really take the time? This is one outfit that tries their best to avoid letting Art fall to the waste-side, to just be forgotten. The Neon Venus Art Theatre is open to many different forms of Art and strongly encourages it for all its forms/mediums. Through Paintings and Photographs, Acting and Singing, it's clear that they have a strong love for it. They offer classes as well to keep it going and involve the community! There are classes for everyone (including children) to learn to sing, along with performing/acting on stage. Classes are also offered for Photography and/or Songwriting to help you capture the perfect moment and/or convey the feelings you have through song. They've been with this business of theirs for about three years and counting and aim to keep going with it to help the community see the beauty of the Arts District. The best way to state their recognition is to point out that they have a location/school in Las Vegas as well as Hollywood and that they are owned by members of a band that have toured and been on international television. Also, for First Friday in the Arts District, their band performs with other local bands to help promote them as they have postings from local artists in their gallery! They have taken studies to help perfect their craft and are the friendliest people you'll meet! They have a strong love for Art and really wish to share that with the community and not let it die off.
First time I went to Neon Venus Art Theatre was for the First Friday Art Festival for March. Every first Friday of the month, downtown has a huge art festival featuring many local bands, artists, merchants, drinks, and anything you can image. People hear Las Vegas and they think of casinos, gambling, clubbing...well that's not culture. If you are a local, you know to stay away from those touristy locations. When my friends and I want to escape from that we go downtown, and it's places like Neon Venus Art Theatre that bring real down to earth artists together. The place was packed for First Friday with people of all ages, and it was the best musical vibe ever. They had walls full of art work from local upcoming artists, 6 different local bands rocking out on their stage, and crowd of people moshing in front of the stage. The owners were very welcoming, and their band Neon Venus played also. They definitely knew how to entertain the crowd. As for other services, they taught teen acting, and I actually had the privilege to see it when visiting this one time. There was about 10-12 kids (from ages 8-15) taking the class, and their supportive parents watching their rehearsal. It was really cute how much fun they were having. I checked out their website and they have singing, Spanish, adult acting lessons too. I would have to disagree with some of the negative comments. Talent can come from anywhere----not just Hollywood ; )
Neon Venus is the place to be!! I love going to the First Fridays every month, the bands that play there are sensational. The music is from all walks of life. The owners are first rate good loving and helping hands to the youth of Las Vegas. Their goal is to make sure the children can be themselves in all the acting classes that are provided by Peter and Lisette. The children are our future and for those less privaleged it is the perfect place to go. Just walk in our children shoes one day and see all the pressure that is bestowed on them. They need to be able to have a future without gangs and people who just don't care what happens to them. It is a great place to make new friends and to have an everlasting impression from Neon Venus, so they can say," I am a great person and can set my mind to whatever I will do in my future." Not only do they teach acting they also teach up and coming musicians to inprove their perception in what they play or sing. First Friday is a blast and a great time to be with friends. If you just see for yourself it will stick with you forever and you will be hooked just like me.
Elizabeth, you are tall with dark hair. I watched you walk in with your arms at your side and your hands clenched. You had your mouth scrunched up and would not move your head to look at a single person about you. There was a man who has great difficulty walking and I was very surprised he came over to you and extended his hand to you. You looked away from him and took a seat wherein you only allowed your eyes to move from side to side. I thank Jesus for protecting our congregation from a person who really doesn't want Jesus in their life, and took their ill out on His church people. Split foot 0. FWCC! WINNERS IN THE NAME OF JESUS. GLORY! GLORY!
Great School! I had no idea about anything to do with acting, but went with a friend to try it out. The teachers have a lot of experience and I was completely comfortable as a beginner. In addition, voice and language lessons are offered as well. The sessions aren't too pricey and I feel much more comfortable speaking in public. I now have the confidence to get involved in more local theatre thanks to Neon Venus, Peter and Lissette. Next month I may even (eek!) try out for a part. The place is located in the perfect spot -- Las Vegas 18b Arts District and definitely contributes to downtown's artsy culture.
The day I walked into MFM, I was kicking and screaming I was not looking for God nor did I want him to find me. But thanks to Gods grace and mercy for all of us, God had another plan for me, I left that day a new person restored to a place in my mind and spirit that I had only dreamed of. Thank you Lord for not giving up on me when I had given up on myself. Thank You, Bishop House, for ALLOWING GOD TO USE YOU TO GET TO ME.
Really great, little theater! It's located inside one of the older hotel/casinos, but the theater seems like it's newly remodeled and is clean and comfortable. My wife and I have attended 2 shows there (Larry G Jones & "Shades of Sinatra") and enjoyed them both very much. Prices are extremely reasonable for the caliber of show you get. We hope to go back again soon.
Good Show This theater located in Planet Hollywood offers a number of excellent shows. We saw he Ultimate Variety Show with Wally Eastwood. It was a great show, sort of down scaled from the "big" shows, with acrobats, aerial performers, balancing acts and a magician. The top billing went to the magician but she was lackluster at best.
Word of Life Christian is an excellent school!!!! Our children grandchildren attend this school and you feel so much love and dedication from the staff. The school is science fair champions and basketball champions, there is a lot of spirit and activities for the students. This school is a family and we love it.
