Having grown up in New Jersey and having worked in New York City for several years I have had the chance to eat at many of the best Chinese restaurants on the east coast. My experiences with Chinese restaurants in Las Vegas have been mediocre at best. There are a few "OK" family-owned places around town but it seems like the standard for Chinese food is a Panda Express on every corner. That being said I have now found one Chinese restaurant that makes it completely inexcusable for me to go to the Panda Express down the street ever again. That place is New JJ's Shanghai restaurant. Their Chinese cuisine is some of the best I have had anywhere in the United States. Its one of those little places with only a hand full of tables and a big take out counter that you wouldn't necessarily expect to be serving up 5 star quality meals. JJ's is family owned and operated and their chef, Robert, is a master of the kitchen. I have not had a single thing there that I didn't consider to be both delicious and filling. Surprisingly, JJ's is also light on the wallet too. You can get a fresh cooked Chinese, Filipino or Thai dish with real meat and vegetables (they have tofu too) in the same price range as Burger King or Panda Express ($5-$8 for most things). They also have the best Thai Ice tea I've ever had (and far cheaper than so-called "authentic" Thai restaurants which will charge you an arm and a leg for a Thai ice tea). For the first time in my life I've also tried some of their Filipino items which were very good. The Sinigan Hipon was surprisingly good (it’s a sort of semi-clear tomato soup with whole cooked shrimp and diced vegetables and tomatoes – not something I would have ever imagined myself eating, much less ordering on a weekly basis but now I’m hooked!). I can't imagine anything on the menu being bad (and by the way, the selection on the menu is HUGE -- they also have lunch specials and family dinner meals for a great price). Some of my favorites are the shredded pork with eggplant, the Sinigan Hipon, the twice cooked BBQ pork, the beef chow mein and the house special fried rice. They also boast the best Orange Chicken in 3 states (and that doesn't even count Nevada -- yet!). In this day of pre-packaged and frozen fast food its amazing how good an authentic fresh cooked meal tastes! New JJ's Shanghai restaurant has got me as a customer for as long as I live in Las Vegas!

I happened to have a different experience. My friend and I enjoyed our visit yesterday. They have a lot of items on the menu with some shrimps, oysters, and sushi for $6.99 plus drink ($1,29) if you wish, or you can just ask for water. That's not bad at all as compared to other buffet in town. One thing I noticed is that they only give you a fork; no knife or spoon. I believe that they are getting better, especially to think that Dragon Beffet (across the street) has shut down. I've seen others eating ice cream with a plastic spoon. As far as customer service is concerned, they need to learn "service with a smile" -which is very important in such a business. I believe they will improve with time if they are reading these reviews.
Joyful House is my most favorable restaurant in Las Vegas. Their salt & pepper lobster are the best seafood dish that I have tried in town. It was so crispy & the taste make me can't stop until the last bite. I went to this restaurant since I moved to Las Vegas in 2001, I love this restaurant because they can always maintain a very good service & food quality, I never been disappointed over there. Their waiter are very helpful & friendly to me & my family. I was very impressed by their fine wine list, their chateau petrus, lafite, margaux, australia grange or opus one with an very incredible price that I think no where in town can compare it. Joyful, keep it up !!!
