Medical Eye Services, founded in 1973, is Lake County's leading practice dedicated to excellence in medical and surgical eye care. We specialize in the treatment of pediatric, corneal, uveitis, glaucoma, cataract and retinal eye problems, as well as providing routine eye exams to insure continued maintenance of good vision. Building on a foundation of outstanding ophthalmologic care, our doctors are all certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and are active members in numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Hamming and Dr. Thompson are experienced in and compassionate about the unique challenges of pediatric patients. Working in pediatric ophthalmology and with strabismus cases in particular, we must pay careful attention not only to the needs of the patient, but to the concerns of their parents as well. While young children are typically not aware of the details of strabismus surgery, Dr. Hamming and Dr. Thompson take great care in educating parents and allaying their fears.
Macular Degeneration
Conditions that may require monitoring or treatment in the office include new flashes and floaters, macular degeneration, diabetes in the eye, retinal artery or vein diseases, medication screening, retinal tears, retinal and vitreous bleeding, pathologic myopia, vitreous detachments, and more.
Cataracts
Some patients may not be candidates for this procedure because of other co-existing ophthalmic problems besides their cataract. All relevant eye conditions will be discussed with you by your surgeon.
Cataract Surgery
Conventional cataract surgery patients usually see well in the distance without spectacles but they often have difficulty with near work activities without spectacles. In other words, following cataract surgery, glasses will be needed most of the time for tasks such as reading, paying bills, hobby and craftwork, card playing and grocery shopping.
