Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
A. Patients should brush their teeth at least four times each day – after each meal and before going to bed. We will also show you how to floss your teeth with braces, and we may provide a prescription for a special fluoride treatment, if necessary.

Brush your removable appliance every day as a part of your regular brushing and flossing schedule. Because food particles and plaque can accumulate on your appliance just as they do on your teeth, soak the appliance once a month in a denture cleaning solution. Dissolve a denture-cleaning tablet in a glass of tap water at room temperature, and soak your appliance.

The growth of a person's jaw is a steady process, and sometimes the growth of the upper and lower jaw can occur at different rates, causing a discrepancy in size and function. Often, these abnormalities cause difficulty associated with chewing, talking, sleeping, breathing and other routine activities. Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth. Orthodontic treatment may also be used in conjunction with corrective jaw surgery to align the teeth appropriately. Although jaw surgery can dramatically improve a patient's appearance, the goal is to correct functional problems.

Braces
Typically, Phase II treatment is normal orthodontic treatment which involves placing braces on the patient once his or her permanent teeth have erupted. The braces straighten the permanent teeth and finish correctly aligning the patient’s jaw. By age 12, most, if not all, permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, which is when crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected. These problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment for their children.

General Dentistry
Dr. Mayer was born in Brenham and raised in La Grange, Texas. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist who graduated from La Grange High School and completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. After practicing general dentistry in Austin, he returned to a residency in Orthodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Upon graduation, he opened his orthodontic practice in La Grange and Brenham.
