Knox County Engineering and Public Works is one of the departments of the city government of Knoxville, Tenn. It operates a highway and bridge maintenance division that maintains, builds and rehabilitates more than 2,000 miles of paved roads and over 130 bridges. The department also has a planning and development division that manages various activities related to the new development and construction of subdivisions, homes and businesses. Knox County Engineering and Public Works stormwater management division is responsible for erosion control and watershed education, master planning, the administration of water quality programs and the design of municipal drainage improvements. It additionally supports a traffic calming program to help mitigate speeding and cut-through traffic.
