Frussies Deli

I love this place. He makes very good sandwiches. I have been to hundreds of shops like this all over the Eastern US and this is one of my favorites -- right here at home. It is not pretentious at all, perhaps so to a fault, but the quality is outstanding. He makes his bread every morning and uses good meats. My wife really likes his egg salad. I love his coleslaw and his potato salad too. he has no fried foods. The prices are higher than you would expect (especially for sandwiches like Reubens and Italians) -- a meal costs around $6-12, but it is so worth it and worth the 15 min drive for us. I think his Italian is the most delicious sandwich I have ever had and that includes Muffulettas from Central Grocery. he coats the buns in an herbed dressing and then grills it briefly. Wow! Several times, though, he was unexpectedly closed for various reasons. Once his ovens, which are just regular residential ovens, were not working and another time he just closed early due to low customer numbers. His shop gets a bit hot in the summer and in the winter for my tastes and the only decor at all are pictures taken by his very nice wife from her travels. In fact, if you did not taste his food you would think that the place is not that good from its appearance. He remembers you when you arrive, though, and is almost sandwich version of the Seinfeld Soup Nazi, which I also like. I saw a copy of the great Jacques Pepin's treatise on basic techniques on his shelf so that is an insight to his character and his food! Go there. If you don't like it, you are probably too pretentious for your own good.
