Early symptoms of arthritis of the hand include joint pain that may feel “dull,” or a “burning” sensation. The pain often occurs after periods of increased joint use, such as heavy gripping or grasping. The pain may not be present immediately, but may show up hours later or even the following day. Neurology
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that young athletes with concussions be evaluated and cleared by a doctor before returning to sports. The American Academy of Neurology offers a similar recommendation, and stresses that doctors who clear athletes for return to sports should be trained in managing and accessing sports concussions.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Some of the most common work-related injuries involve the back and the hands. For the worker who relies on his or her back to perform duties, such as lifting and loading, an injury can mean lost time and lost income. The use of computers in the workplace may have taken some of the burden off our backs, but with it, we have seen an increase in stress and injury to the hands, elbow, neck, and shoulders. Repetitive stress injuries can manifest in a variety of ways. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome are just two of the injuries that can result from overuse and/or improper use of our hands and arms while we work.

Ultrasound
To do this, a vein specialist inserts a catheter into the diseased vein through a tiny incision below the knee. Guided by ultrasound imaging, a vein specialist will treat the vein in 7 cm segments for 20 seconds each. The catheter delivers consistent and uniform heat to contract the collagen in the vein walls, causing them to collapse and close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood is then naturally redirected to healthy veins. The treated vein then becomes fibrous tissue and will gradually be absorbed into surrounding tissue.

A concussion is an injury to the brain most often caused by a mild or severe blow to the head. Any traumatic force to the head, neck, or body could put you at risk for developing a concussion. After a head injury, it can be difficult to tell if someone has sustained a concussion. Any person suspected of having a concussion should be evaluated by a trained professional. A concussion is a functional injury to the brain, so CT scan of the brain and most MRIs are frequently normal. Headaches, blurry vision, dizziness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping and concentrating are some of the more common symptoms; however, appetite loss, depressed mood, and sensitivity to bright lights and noises can also be signs of a concussion. Sciatica
As a disc degenerates, the soft inner gel of the disc can leak back into the spinal canal. This is known as a disc herniation. Once inside the spinal canal, the herniated disc material puts pressure on the nerve, causing pain to radiate down the nerve. This may lead to sciatica or leg pain the case of a herniated lumbar disc, or arm pain in the case of a herniated cervical disc.

N 2017, Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County became the first orthopedic practice in the Hudson Valley to perform outpatient joint replacement surgery at an ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This procedure was performed at the Surgery Center at Orthopedic Associates (SCOA), a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical facility located next to our Poughkeepsie office location. As opposed to the traditional procedure, which requires a minimum one night hospital stay, the outpatient joint replacement procedure uses a technique that allows patients to go home hours after surgery. Performing outpatient joint replacements at ASCs on the appropriate patient can realize a significant cost savings to you due to lower facility costs and no overnight/long hospital stays. Studies have shown that patients who recover outside of a hospital setting also tend to be happier and more comfortable.

Ingrown Toenails
When you first have an ingrown toenail, it may be hard, swollen and tender. Later, it may get red and infected, and feel very sore. Ingrown toenails are a common, painful condition-particularly among teenagers. Any of your toenails can become ingrown, but the problem more often affects the big toe. An ingrown nail occurs when the skin on one or both sides of a nail grows over the edges of the nail, or when the nail itself grows into the skin. Redness, pain and swelling at the corner of the nail may result and infection may soon follow. Sometimes a small amount of pus can be seen draining from the area.

Hip Replacement Surgery Recently I had total hip replacemt at St. Luke's Hospital. The hospital stay was as pleasant as one could hope for. Very nice, helpful staff here. I couldn't say enough good things about my surgeon Dr. Kenneth Rauschenbach, and his staff. Damien was awesome, the girls in the office, very helpful. Knee Replacement

Actually, most foot problems can be blamed not on walking but on your walking shoes. Corns, for example, are calluses that form on the toes because the bones push up against the shoe and put pressure on the skin. The surface layer of the skin thickens and builds up, irritating the tissues underneath. Hard corns are usually located on the top of the toe or on the side of the small toe. Soft corns resemble open sores and develop between the toes as they rub against each other.

The swelling, redness, and changes to the bone that are seen on x-ray may be confused for a bone infection. A bone infection is very unlikely if the skin is intact and there is no ulcer present.
Calluses
People often blame the common foot deformity claw toe on wearing shoes that squeeze your toes, such as shoes that are too short or high heels. However, claw toe also is often the result of nerve damage caused by diseases like diabetes or alcoholism, which can weaken the muscles in your foot. Having claw toe means your toes “claw,” digging down into the soles of your shoes and creating painful calluses. Claw toe gets worse without treatment and may become a permanent deformity over time.

Ankle Instability
Chronic ankle instability is a condition characterized by a recurring “giving way” of the outer (lateral) side of the ankle. This condition often develops after repeated ankle sprains. Usually the “giving way” occurs while walking or doing other activities, but it can also happen while you’re just standing. Many athletes and ordinary people suffer from chronic ankle instability. People with chronic ankle instability often complain of: Repeated turning of the ankle, especially on uneven surfaces or when participating in sports Persistent (chronic) discomfort and swelling Pain or tenderness Chronic ankle instability usually develops following an ankle sprain that has not adequately healed or was not rehabilitated completely. When you sprain your ankle, the connective tissues (ligaments) are stretched or torn. The ability to balance is often affected. Proper rehabilitation is needed to strengthen the muscles around the ankle and “retrain” the tissues within the ankle that affect balance. If you suffer from chronic ankle instability ask your doctor about an internal brace for ligament repair.

An ankle sprain occurs when the strong ligaments that support the ankle stretch beyond their limits and tear. Ankle sprains are common injuries that occur among people of all ages. They range from mild to severe, depending upon how much damage there is to the ligaments.

If you trim your toenails too short, particularly on the sides of your big toes, you may set the stage for an ingrown toenail. Like many people, when you trim your toenails, you may taper the corners so that the nail curves with the shape of your toe. But this technique may encourage your toenail to grow into the skin of your toe. The sides of the nail curl down and dig into your skin. An ingrown toenail may also happen if you wear shoes that are too tight or too short.
