Killeen Animal Control Shelter

We recently adopted a dog from this shelter. I would not advise anyone adopt from them. We adopted her and found out she had kennel cou or so we thought. The vet did the heartworm test when doing her checkup found out she had bad heartworms. Vet was very upset that the shelter does not test for heartworms. They dont test beause it is very expensive to treat if found positive. We are treating our dog, but the conditions in the kennel are bad and I ended up going to the banfield hospital er because the dog was coughing and ha a fever. They told me they have a lot of distemper and very sick dogs come from this shelter. Please do yourself a favor and google animal shelters in the area. There are plenty.

my husband and i adopted a 5 year old puppy from here 2 weeks ago and it ended up having canine distrempia or something like that which is incurable and VERY contagious! so probably A LOT of their dogs have it. so i just wanted to be able to warn people so they don't have to go through the pain we did of getting attached to him and then end up having to put him down

My friend adopted a dog from the shelter in September 2012. The dog had a slight cough but actually had distemper. After paying over $400 trying to save this dog, she had to be put down. Everyone needs to be very careful adopting from the city shelter as this is a horrible disease and highly contagious.

We adopted our Charlie from there last year, he is the BEST dog. Everyone there was great, if we had room I'd go back for another dog from there anytime.

I recently adopted a Great Pyrenees from this shelter, the staff was very helpful & the kennels looked very clean. Thank you ALL for helping me find my new best friend, she's the sweetest girl ever.

I was highly impressed with my experience with Killeen Animal Control. I adopted a dog there in January of 2012. The staff was so friendly and helped find a dog that was a perfect fit for my home. I was shocked that they actually knew the dogs so well to be able to provide recommendations. He had slight Kennel Cough but that's really common with any shelter. I'm very glad I adopted from Killeen and was able to save a life.

my daughter adopted a dog pretty puppy 4 months old for my 2 yr old grand daughter from this place ,after a day the puppy started showing signs of illness.she took the dog to the vet and it was a respiratory infection well the meds weren't working so when starsky got weak took him to the emergency vet and was told he had parvo ,put him on IV and brought him to the reg vet only to find out the puppy had distemper.when I inquired about adopting , curious as to what they would say at the shelter ,i called to inquire about adopting a pet and she says to me that they do not get checked before joining the other dogs because they do not have a vet ,so I said if I have other dogs they can die from fatal disease too she says that is right ,wouldn't you say that is cruelty and neglect to animals and this is animal control shelter that picks up strays

needless to say I was highly upset with that answer.I amm so upset that my daughter and grand daughter along with myself is so hurt from having to put this poor puppy down how can a shelter that is suppose to help animals are actually hurting many of them from neglect .I gave a 1 star rating but don't think they deserve that
