VHKW ~ Vacation Homes of Key West is a premier locally owned and operated vacation rental management (VRM) company providing personalized service, through the use of a proprietary management and marketing system. We specialize in vacation rental property management which involves marketing, renting, and maintaining weekly and monthly vacation rentals in Key West, Florida. While other companies are moving into corporate off-the-shelf management systems that force compliance with mega corporate on-line travel and vacation rental websites, we have remained independent and flexible, based on our decades of experience. Also, by design, we do not sell real estate and we do not manage long-term rentals. This allows us to completely focus on providing detailed and outstanding vacation rental management services for privately owned Key West weekly rentals and Key West monthly rentals. We are a locally grown, locally based entrepreneurial business with deep roots in Key West. We are also well educated world travelers, with several international staff members who help bring a global awareness to our customer service. This means we have both the local knowledge required to get things done on a small island hundreds of miles from the nearest city, and the sophistication required to manage privately owned vacation homes that are part of a world destination that increasingly caters to the luxury traveler. Over 25 years later, we are still going strong, and believe in what we are doing.

Business History

Our story begins in the late 1980’s with our company’s founder, Cindy M. Rhoades, who fueled by her love for historical island architecture and Caribbean sailing planned a short get-away to Key West. The ‘quick trip’ lingered into an extended stay that never really ended as she was carried away by the exotic island life-style. Before she knew it she had fallen in love … with the story-book Key West houses and charming old-world pedestrian neighborhoods. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s most Key West wooden historic houses still stood around the island in various states of dis-repair, diamonds in the rough patiently waiting for a resurrection. Determined to own a little Key West cottage,Cindy was no stranger to renovating and decorating houses, and in fairly short order she owned her first circa 1918 ramshackle cottage in Old Town Key West. With undying determination the tiny run-down cottage was charmingly revived, romantically decorated, and ready to live in within a few months.
