In a world of computerized telephone menus, drive-thru restaurants and big box stores staffed by legions of disinterested automatons, Joe's Lawnmower Shop on Tulane is that veritable oasis in the retail desert. It's the place you go to and people remember who you are. They're there to help you solve you problems first, and selling you something only enters the equation if it solves your problem. Case in point: My Husqavarna chainsaw's spring popped loose, thanks to my own meddling. Joe's doesn't service my brand, but Jim looked at my Husqavarna since I didn't need any parts replacements, assembled it for me, and told me how to properly care for it. All the while I was there, customers would come in to chat and get parts. He didn't charge me for it, and politely declined an offer to get him a Coke. He was simply interested in solving my problem. How refreshing!
