Two reasons why I agree with the review that advises to STAY AWAY.
1. I was sitting in his waiting room waiting for my car to be repaired. A worker managing the office calls someone to tell them their car is ready. The customer clearly asked when the car was finished and the worker told him it had been ready for five days. The guy he called was obviously irate. So the worker said he will get the owner to speak with him. When Kevin walked in the office he asked his employee if he had tried to reach the man earlier. The employed said he hadn’t. So Kevin takes the phone and says, “Sir, we left you two voice mails and almost gave up. Fortunately my employee took the initiative to try and reach you today.” I was amazed that all this was taking place in front of me.
2. In spite of discovering the lack of ethics in the owner I eventually took another one of my cars in and asked him to determine why a particular part wasn’t working and what it would cost to repair. They charged me $85 to examine it and since I couldn’t afford the repair did not have it fixed. A month later I left the Island for a couple weeks so my wife took it in (not knowing I had already done that) and asked the same questions. Her eventual response was “Wow, it cost $85 for you to tell me that?” And Kevin’s response was, “Yeah. That’s what we charged your husband a month ago.” She was amazed. “You mean you looked this over for the same problem just a month ago???” “Yes we did. You never asked if I already looked it over.”
Yes, I was foolish to return but he was the only repair shop in Kapaa at the time. Fortunately there is one near us in Kapahi who is fair, quick and honest
