My experience with BLC left me shocked and disappointed.
I worked there for several months, in which I took on many responsibilities and made a strong connection with the kids I served/taught.
*Teachers/Subject Material: When it comes to teachers and their goals for their classrooms, most of the hired teachers put 110% into their work. Resources were rarely sufficient; many, many times I would have to miss out on a fun project or worksheet for my students because the printer either wasn't working or we didn't have one at all. This was brought up to the directors and was primarily brushed aside. Most of the hired teachers are kind and compassionate; which comes in handy for the times when they are over ratio. (See below)
* Safety: My main safety concern is the ratio issue. During the Summer season, this doesn't seem to be much of a problem, but for the rest of the year, this is a BIG problem. I worked at least thirty, yes 30 times where I was at least three students over ratio. At one point I had twenty nine students by mmyself. This concern was also brought to the directors and a temporary fix was expected to be enough but wasn't. There were other things about the building itself that just didn't make me feel good for the kids. There were cover plates missing from the wall outlets and loose flooring. The heating was a big issue over the winter as many times it wouldn't work or it wasn't fixed properly.
All in all, I'm thankful for the people I met at BLC and the kids I served. I was not fired from this job and there are no ulterior motives for this post other than to inform prospective clients as to the truth.
