Dental Examination
The team is organized as soon as the decision for placing a dental implant is reached. Root Canal Treatment
Statistics show that 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth to an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal or tooth decay. Furthermore, by age 74, 26% of adults have lost all of their permanent teeth.

Dentures
Twenty years ago, these patients would have had no alternative but to employ a fixed bridge or removable denture to restore their ability to eat, speak clearly and smile. Fixed bridges and removable dentures, however, are not the perfect solution and often bring with them a number of other problems. Removable dentures may slip or cause embarrassing clicking sounds while eating or speaking. Of even greater concern, fixed bridges often affect adjacent healthy teeth, and removable dentures may lead to bone loss in the area where the tooth or teeth are missing. Recurrent decay, periodontal (gum) disease and other factors often doom fixed bridgework to early failure. For these reasons, fixed bridges and removable dentures usually need to be replaced every seven to 15 years.

Dental Implants
For dental implant placement, sometimes additional bone is needed. Bone loss can be the result of trauma or deterioration over time. When this happens, your oral surgeon may need to help your body develop new bone either before or at the time your implant is placed. Your oral surgeon will place bonegrafting material that will help support new bone formation over time.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
A sinus lift is surgery that adds bone to your upper jaw in the area of your molars and premolars. It's sometimes called a sinus augmentation. The bone is added between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses, which are on either side of your nose. To make room for the bone, the sinus membrane has to be moved upward, or "lifted." Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Hamlin was born and raised in Kalamazoo County. He attended Western Michigan University for undergraduate class work. He received a Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine at University of Pittsburgh in 1998 and immediately completed a one year internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 1999. Dr. Hamlin then went on to complete a four year residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois in 2003.
