This may be a long post but it is well deserved. About two weeks prior to Tuesday my dog started showing signs of either diabetes or a UTI. On Monday Oct 3rd he started throwing up and not eating. I just figured it was a stomach bug and if it wasn't better by the next day we would figure something out. The next day I woke up and had seen that my poor baby was VERY sick. We took him into the office and was seen right away. Within the next 20 mins we had done test results and found out our baby was diabetic and was suffering from pancreatitis. They started an IV right away, gave him an antibiotic, nausea medicine and insulin. His blood sugar was so high that the machine couldn't read it. The next day he was dropped off from 7am-5pm to get fluids and to be monitored. When we arrived to pick him up Dr Lewis gave us the run down. Cosmo's sugar would go down and then sky rocket back up. His insulin wasn't responding with his body. Not knowing what to do they had everyone working search for a solution for him. Dr Wetta and Dr Lewis saved my dogs live. Dr Wetta went on her day off and searched for the insulin she uses just so Cosmo doesn't go into a coma. She brought it to him and they administered him a dose. His sugar was 309 when I got him home that night. Cosmo has a very long road to becoming healthy again. But those two women saved his life. When I dropped him off last week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the lady's in the front take him so gently from me and care for him in the best way. Thank you so much for saving my baby! They all went above and beyond to find him insulin. Above and beyond to treating him. Thank you all ladies. Cosmo says thank you too!

Academy is fabulous! I have been a regular customer for several years now, and haven't had any bad experiences. The staff is very welcoming and nice. I tried other veterinary clinics before, only to feel like they didn't care about my furbaby. That is what lead me to Academy. After our first visit, I knew we finally found the right place.

To everyone spewing hate on the basis of a one-sided and self-serving FB post, have you thought, even for a second, that there might be critical facts and details missing? Like that the only doctor there was in the middle of surgery? That the poster refused to sign a consent form authorizing treatment? For an account from another client who was present, search the Jacksonville Daily News website with the clinic name.

this is a post that made it to Wilmington,nc,i am appalled at the actions of this vet office. Why don't you shut your doors if you are not in it for the love of animals. Everyone that was there the day this happened should be ashamed of yourselves.,,,,,,Not only did this piece of crap vet office deny this poor dog bleeding on their front porch but when I went in and asked in so many cuss words for some water and that I would pay for it all of the customers jumped up to get me water for the poor dog while the idiots that work there stud with their mouth open. Please repost this for me as many times as you will. They would not treat this dog without cash it wasn't even my dog and I had never seen it before but I took the time to get it out of the ditch from drowning put it in my truck where it bled all over and drove it to the vet. Not my problem but I stuck my head out veterinarians are supposed to help animals what a piece of s*** vet please repost

Academy Animal Hospital has always been very kind and loving towards our 2 dogs. The desk staff are very polite and seem to genuinely love animals, and the techs and vet are knowledgeable, quick and try to make each visit as painless (for your fur baby and you wallet) as possible. I've been to two other vets in the area, and I will keep coming back to AAH for many years to come.

Academy Animal Hospital is extremely untrustworthy and shows no good morals. I recently took my dog into this vet to get a bump removed from her leg, so she was scheduled to have surgery. Before taking her to her surgery appointment, we decided to shave areas where she had small bumps on her back so that they could also be removed, which was no problem to the vet. After picking my dog up after her surgery, some of the bumps we had shaved around were removed, and some were not. The bump that was on her leg, the main purpose of the surgery, still remained. We called and talked to the doctor, who took no responsibility for her mistake, and were told that if we wanted the bump removed, we would have to pay an additional $65 on top of the $400 that was already spent for the procedure. The lack of responsibility of this veterinarian was completely unexpected. This hospital is apparently unable to take responsibility for its mistakes, but fully willing to take as much money from its customers as possible. This place was reliable many years ago, but its morals and its dignity has completely been diminished.

The first thing I have to say is, Thank you. Our member of the family passed at this facility and as difficult as it was, they made it a little easier. Compassion and patience for someone who was grieving. As I sat in the waiting room, I saw other families waiting to have their pets seen. Every one of them happy to bring them to this pet hospital. I knew I was at the right place. Today I received a sympathy card from them and it took me by surprise. Sometimes a little gesture goes a long way. Thank you so much for understanding that our pets are family too.

The staff at Academy Animal Hospital was extremely friendly and helpful with my pet dog. My dog was able to be seen without waiting long and the nurse and Veternarian were both extremely skilled with their jobs. The Vet made sure that I was aware of the procedures she was doing and she showed sympathy for the pain my dog was in. The Vet and nurse advised me of what was wrong with my dog and explained how we could go about making her better. The cost of this visit was what I would expect to pay, it was not extremely cheap nor was it extremely expensive. It was a fair price and I would recommend this Veterinarian Hospital to the other pet lovers out there.

We had been taking our dog to ...

We had been taking our dog to another vet for years, with skin/coat problems who were never able to diagnose the issue... Took him to academy, on recommendation from a friend, and they were able to spot the problem right away. They were friendly and helpful and I was so pleased that when it was time to take my17 year old cat to be put to sleep, I wouldn't have trusted anyone else. The doc who helped my cat was empathetic and respectful of my emotions and took her time in explaining the process. You can't buy that kind of customer care during an ordeal like that. I would recommend them to anyone without reservation.

I have been using this vet cli...

I have been using this vet clinic for the last seven years, my animals have received the most professional care, to include end of life care, that I could hope for. The vet techs are well trained, and highly capable. front desk staff(the individual's that take a lot of abuse) are also caring and professional; the vets all take time to discuss concerns that I might have about my animal. This is a very busy clinic, yet I have never felt rushed.

Technicians are very nice and ...

Technicians are very nice and helped me understand everything, the vet is iffy, he's a bit rude and you have to be there on his time, they say he is old so he makes his own schedule but yet they accept walk ins. I have dealt with his son a couple of times, he seems like he doesn't even like animals. Front desk is rude and don't know what they are talking about half the time. Since I usually deal with the echnicians I am giving this place a 3 star since they are efficient and the only reason the place is still standing in my opinion! Prices are pretty good too.... if you have base access it is cheaper to get their shots done at the vet there but for surgeries and everything else I would be confident with academy. I had my dobermans ears done and they turned out great! I opted to have them keep her a couple extra days since her stitches were still bleeding when she would shake her head, it didn't cost anything extra and they were happy to keep her.

Horrible customer service decent doctors

I've been going to this vet clinic for a long time now and every single time the staff has been mean and rude. The doctors were very nice and I was willing to put up with the nasty customer service until I had to take my dog to remove stitches, a lady at the front desk there told me to pick him up at 6pm that same day. When I arrived, there was no one there. My poor dog had not eaten in over 24 hours. I picked him up at 7am the next morning and they still charged me money for keeping my dog overnight, even though I explained what happened. Do not waste your time or money here. The doctors like I said are nice, but it isn't worth putting up with their front desk clerks.

Not professional or clean

I just recently moved here and needed to find a vet to get my dog in for a UTI as soon as possible. They were the only ones that could see her right away and now I know why. I knew when I walked in the door that this wasn't a place I felt comfortable with. And I was right. The rooms were very unsanitary with tools just laying on counters and hanging up on the walls. They had to draw her blood and then told my husband to hold her leg where the needle was. They should have taped her leg. Then about 10 minutes later they came back in and said that her blood clotted and that they would have to draw blood again and before I knew it they grabbed my dog's leash and she was out of the room. They brought her back with blood dripping down her other leg because once again they didn't tape it. My husband even told the vet that next time they should tape her leg after they draw blood and the vet just looked at him and didn't say anything. My sister is a licensed vet tech back home and when I told her what had happened she said it wasn't even necessary for the blood to be taken since her urine showed white blood cells which means there is an infection present. She also said for the blood to have clotted that they didn't draw it properly the first time. I won't be back and I wouldn't recommend this place.
