I have taken my Fila (agrgressive breed) and Great Dane here for years. They are amazing. Dr Guill is the best vet I have ever seen! He's always been honest with us good or bad, and every time we go in our babies have been treated like family, not just another patient. Both dogs were abandoned by their previous owners and have had very challenging health issues at times, and we love having a doctors office that is as interested in making sure they feel better as we are. I would recommend them to everyone. And to comment on some of the negative reviews- every one and every business is entitled to a bad day. But if you've been going here for 5, 10, 20 years and all you've ever had is one bad situation, give them a chance to correct themselves. No vet or even a regular doctor can be 100% percent certain, 100% of the time

Had my dog in for cherry eye surgery. After two months they have come undone. The stitches that were supposed to dissolve in two weeks are still there and the kicker is they want the same price of the surgery, just to look at her. This is what he said was a price break. Some break.
I have been taking my pets here for over 20 years. I will Not be returning. Dr. Fulton does not followup or return your calls: because of this my cat was suffering more than she had too. Going to find a new place to take my pets....

This facility was highly recommended by someone I know that runs a kennel and I am so happy to have found such an awesome vet. I can't express the care that was given me and my cat, when I had to put my princess down. I bring my dog here now for his yearly and whatever else and everyone is always great, even those at the front desk. The prices are so much better than anywhere else too.
I just had the WORST experience today at San Juan Animal Hospital and truly saddened. And even as I write this I am confident they will delete this as quickly as they can.
I have been going to San Juan with my pets for over 12 years, however sadly due to my experience today they will no longer have my business because of the lack of follow through, commitment and deceit on their part.
I called t...o check on the price for Comfortis for two of my four dogs (one being a foster). I even talked to them about one of he dogs getting caught up on their vaccines, clearly stating it would be done within the next few weeks (waiting on the tax return like most everybody is!). I was told that was OK that I could come pick up their prescriptions (for BOTH dogs). I get their and was told I couldn't, they wouldn't allow it and that my phone conversation was a misunderstanding. I don't know what happened to this place, but they no longer care to uphold their commitment and what they tell their patients.
I was even GRACIOUS enough, several months ago, to take a dog out of their kennels to foster until I could find a forever home.... My money, my time for a clinic to verbally commit to lying to me and then tell me I had a misunderstanding.
There are certain vets and one vet tech I will say are great and I would never include them in the HORRIBLE service experienced today.

Secret Shoppers of Jacksonville Visit Experience 1/5 San Juan Animal Hospital was recently chosen by SSJax for a complete review. Full names will not be given, only first few letters of employees name ( If a name tag was worn) will be given as to not disrespect the company. SSJax Emp. # 251 - ""Upon arriving to the business, first thing noticed was the spot of urine on the floor that I almost slipped in. Employee behind the counter made eye contact with me, and continued to walk away and turn into what looked to be a small office. Another employee was behind the counter but was helping another customer at the time. This employee advised me that someone would be right with me. After about 3 minutes, the employee who had ducked away from me before finally came out of hiding to ask if I had yet to be helped. Since then, another customer is waiting behind me. The employee, Jac***, proceeded to be very rude, and make no eye contact. Acting as if I was an annoyance to be there. I proceeded to ask how much a flea product was, and purchased it at what to me seemed to be a fairly more expensive product compared to surrounding clinics. I spent ~$20.00 and was handed a receipt without a simple thank you. Due to this experience, I would not recommend this business to anyone else. 1 Yes I will agree staff is nice and sounds caring. This clinic is now advertising $99 for teeth cleaning with no notes that other charges may apply. So, I have an appointment this morning for 9:10 get there and now the price will be $200. Because the dog is 7 years old needs one test, haven't been there before so 49 bucks for check up guess what the check up consisted of? Quick look at his ears and listened to his heart beat that was it. Ok so I of course am upset and politely tell the surgeon that I was quoted 149 over the phone for the whole thing and so he explained why the cost would have been 200.00. So ok we decided on the amount I would be paying, 149 because he said he wanted to clean my dogs teeth. Never heard back all day long and my poor puppy was hungry. Finally my husband phones them at 2 o'clock and they had not even started on him. My husband told them to forget about it he would be there to pick him up. When my husband arrived our puppy couldn't wait to use the bathroom. I am from Jacksonville and many years ago I use this vet clinic now I remember why I stopped going! Will not and care not to return to San Juan Animal Hospital.
I've been to SJ sveral times and have always been treated with compassion and Proffessionalism......If my pet was brought in for an EMERGENCY they call code 7 over an intercom and several techs come to the rescue. I have witnessed this several times.. No I dont wait to see a particular vet when my pet needs to be seen as an emergency, I see who is available first. ( why would I wait for the one that wasnt in at the time?) People need to know that if you wait on one dr your going to wait, duh! There are several vets at this hospital. This hospital is # one for my pets. You Menthol, should have stayed at your regular vet... The girls up front are all nice and you dont need an appointment so there isnt a list Just tell them you have an emergency and they will take you ASAP.. Trust me.
SJAH is right up the road from me but I had to be persuaded to take my extremely ill cat there by a friend who vouched for them. I wasn't keen on going to SJ because of an incident a year ago, in which I took this same cat to them in an emergency. I got there during their operating hours, though it was close. The receptionist refused to see me and instead referred me to the OP Animal Hospital, 30 minutes away. When I explained that it was an emergency, she wouldn't budge and very coolly repeated that I had to go to OP.
Well, now it's a year later, and I call ahead to alert the office that I was bringing in my cat, that she was in critical condition, and qualified as an emergency and that I wanted to see Dr. Fellows (the vet recommended by my friend). Kelly, the receptionist, told me that the vet wouldn't be in until 10am but if I wanted to come a little earlier, that would be all right. I ask if she could put my name on a list so I'd be the first to see him and she said there was no list.
I arrived 15 minutes early, check in, repeat that it's an emergency, and am told that the vet will arrive in 7 minutes. I watch as more people arrive. I've now waited 20 minutes and am shocked to see the technician call in a customer who arrived AFTER me!
I go back to the counter and tell them I'd called ahead, it was an emergency, etc. and if the vet can't see me real soon, I'll go to my other vet (Exotic Animal Hospital). Oh, she says, there's no note about you. She makes no eye contact, and in general struck me as lacking empathy, and treating customers according to whether she liked their looks or the looks of their pets.
At any rate, my dear cat has been with the hospital now for two days. I pick her up tomorrow. My original opinion of this hospital hasn't changed much - and it's the receptionists out front who are causing me to go elsewhere. The vet seems caring. But going through those girls up front is the real battle. They need some older people in there who understand customer relations a little better.

My husband took our sick cat to these people. They ran test and told him that our cat was running a high fever and that he had a virus. Their test were inconclusive. They told us that our cat would get better in a day or so if not to bring him cat back. This was on a Wednesday, our cat died on Friday morning. I called to let them know what had happened to or cat and asked to talk to the Vet that examined him. I had some questions about the tests results that they had preformed. I wanted to ask the Vet if our cat was contagious to other cats or to us even. The receptionist took my message and told me the Vet will cal back. He never did. I did not call to blame them. I know we bought them a sick animal. I just wanted to know what may have killed him. My daughter has a kitten that she brings with her when she visits. This kitten was exposed to our cat. Is this kitten in danger from this unknown cause of sudden death (our cat was very healthy up until this)? I guess since there is no more money to be made from a dead animal it does not matter.
You people complain about money then go somewhere else. The girls that are up front are excellent and always smiling and happy to greet you. The techs are always compassionate towards my dogs and as for the doctors, I have seen every single one and love them all. Do you know how many people they probably deal with daily and have to continue to smile? Get over yourself and take them somewhere like Herschel for cheaper vaccines (which are actually lower doses than you are supposed to get). (My son works at Herschel and I wont even go there).

Look here I've been going to San Juan for many years. My pets and I have become close(family) to the staff there. Sometimes while I'm waiting I over hear customers giving the staff a hard time and many times I should have confronted you myself. San Juan is compassionate with me and my pets, and the price is nothing compared what my health care is. I love my pets as my children, they derserve the best and that's what they get at San Juan. So you people that cant afford the best for your pet Find it a person that can. You shouldnt own a pet and then trash their health care providers. San Juan clients dont want you people there. You are what make the prices go up cause you are always wanting something for nothing..... 10 cheers for the doctors and staff we love you!!!!!!!!

I have been taking my animals to San Juan for some time now. I am a vet tech, and I've worked all over Jacksonville and Orange Park. Yes, there are places where the prices aren't as high as San Juan, but you get what you pay for. I trust San Juan, and due to the fact that I know what I'm talking about, not once have they ever tried to sell me a service that I also thought my animal needed. Bottom line here is, if you don't like San Juan, use another vet, but remember, you get what you pay for.

the few negative reviews really hurt my heart. I am 38years old and have been coming to this vet since I was 15years old. I have seen many people come and go but was always treated as family. I am on this page now because I am in Mississippi and needed to know if they had ever seen a certain dog and the results of a test, when I called in, she had my answer within 1 min. She never put me hold and was as sweet as if I was standing in front of her. I love the staff but more so the Doctors. Dr Bennett is the best and I wold trust him with any of my animals over any doctor in the world. He truely loves his job of saving animals.

We have taken our pets to San Juan Animal Hospital for the past 5 years and can't say enough about the compassion and care they have given our pets, two being rescues. Our pets have received emergency treatment, cesearean surgery, sterilization, heart room treatment., and of course routine care. When two of our dogs were poisoned and died, they even sent us a sympathy card. Dr. Ludzia is wonderful and the staff has always been professional and courteous.

Im still steaming about what happened about a week ago. Its obvious when you check out just how lacking the staff is in empathizing with their customers. They are more concerened about the dollar and what they can get you for. More for upselling and lack of empathy for the customer and their pet. Prices have definitley inflated not only on product but services. Don't ever go in on a Saturday even if you are one of the first people in the door. They have a wacko who works there who states she wants to die. I overheard that as i was coming out to checkout. If she feels this way working in an enviroment how is she taking care of your pet? Seriously? Procedures to be done are not necessary to treat what is at hand at the time. What Ive noticed is at pick up of your pet it seems like you wait just because. Depending on the mood of receptionist or tech. Thats what this other customer told me while i was waiting. \r Dissatisfied\r Karl\r

""Not only is the clinic run more like an insurance company (for profit), but there is nothing in their services that warrant the ridiculous prices they are charging."" From someone back in 2007 that is exactly on the money. They seem to have no compassion and lack training. The waiting is absolutely ridiculous its almost as bad as someone going to the worst vet down the street Herschel. I usually had only gone here for just annual check ups and the usual flea and heartworm medication. I can only say there were only two receptionist 's who when i asked about them said they didnt work there anymore. My dog really needed treatment that day so i didnt have a choice to go somewhere else. If only i knew. The techs pushed me out to checkout. My estimate was way off what my bill ended up being. When i brought this up to the Receptionist i cant remember her name but she has glasses and straight hair. I cant remember her name because she infuriated me. She talked down to me pretty much was calling me stupid and let me know flat out they dont do any type of billing. I wasnt going to do billing because you sign a stupid sheet before you see a doctor acknowleding that they dont do billing. I was just disputing my bill. I heard her and the other receptionist who was a bigger girl with short black hair talk trash as if i couldnt hear them. They were very rude. Inconsiderate of what i was going through at the time with my family ( my animal). To top it off i did not recieve the items that i had left for my dog with specific instructions on food and her blanket. They told me they couldnt find it sorry. Well you tell me to bring this stuff and you misplace it. I even had my name inside of the blanket. That makes me question the care of my animal while i wasnt present. Did my animal get the proper medication? Did she get any medication at all. \r I refuse to stand by and let other people go to this place and come out feeling even more worse than they did coming in.

Not only is the clinic run more like an insurance company (for profit), but there is nothing in their services that warrant the ridiculous prices they are charging. After a $130 office visit and a bottle of syrup for a cat who was having stomach trouble, I also found myself receiving a call from their checkout cashier informing me she missed one of the charges for $54 and was sending me a bill for it. When I expressed my views on their fees for the ""small lab (City Search won't allow the name of the ""red stuff"") works"" (doctor quote), the only response I got was that they actually ""saved"" me money by not sending it to a lab and that I could have paid a lot more if they did. My understanding of ""small lab work"" does not translate as ""complete lab work"" and more on a patient's bill. At least, it never did with my old vet. And just to answer to you on this. No, Miss. Cashier. My vet was not a ""discount vet"", so I didn't ""get what I paid for"". He just happened to believe that removing a wallet from a patient's owner was not part of his regular procedures!...

the people that have negative comments about San Juan Animal Clinics, the staff, doctors or the place in general, obviously are a little on the crazy side. I have been going to SJAH for many years, back when Dr Constantine was still there, and I can only say now that my min-pin wouldnt be more than 10 years old had it not been for Dr. Constantine. My min-pin was 7 ounces at 7 weeks old, and came to me with a UTI and tape worms, I had orginally taken her to a vet down the street from SJAH and the vet there, gave my baby dog a shot for the tape worms, but gave the wrong dosage (enough to worm a 40 lb dog) and there was so much medicine in my little dog, she was extruding it thru her pores. I called SJAH and they told me to bring her in immediately, and when I got there, Dr Constantine saved my dogs life, and the bill was NOT high. My min-pin just celebrated her 10th birthday in may and is extremely healthy. As is my full size Doberman that Dr Bennett treated for heartworms at the same time my dobie's mother was dying. Dr Bennett was a super Doc to my female, and let me stay in the room with her, even though the dog was dying from ESRD and had no hope. He was very compassionate and when he had to tell me the son had heartworms and a severe case at that, he did so when ease and a gentleness I have never experienced with other vet offices. \r I HIGHLY RECOMMEND SAN JUAN ANIMAL HOSPITAL, and will continue to take ALL of my animals there.\r The prices are reasonable compared to other vets around town, and regardless of the fact that they dont take appointments, I dont normally have to wait more than 30 minutes in the reception area (which is far better than my own doctors office).\r Anyone who doesnt believe this, only has to email me, and I will gladly send you pictures of the 2 dogs that I still own that SJAH saved from a certain early death.\r \r pigsrule1969@yahoo
