Attending their Wednesday night open mic night almost didn't happen for us since parking in the area is a bit cumbersome to find and our cards wouldn't work at the lot across the street but we thankfully finally found a metered street parking spot. You have to go through The Vortex restaurant to get into the comedy club through the same door used to access their shared restrooms in the back left of the restaurant. If you're a student be sure to ask for the student discount since you can get in for $5 instead of $10 and I wouldn't order tickets online since there is a $3 per ticket service fee for the convenience of securing your seat online. Although all the chairs at the front of the intimate red-hued venue were taken when we arrived there is overflow bench seating at the back that is pretty comfortable and still gives you a good view of the stage. The quick but sizable open mic acts were divided into two sets although there was no intermission between the two and the first set was definitely stronger than the last one. There was a really good selection of several comedians here, some skilled, some brand new, and most were pretty funny although all of them were at least somewhat entertaining. Overall I cannot think of very many better ways to entertain yourself for this price during a night out for a unique and largely comedic experience.
Girl this is the place to be on any night. I moved here from Cali and I thought I would have to search and search for the perfect spot but I didn't and Oh My God Bruce Bruce is a girls favorite on Wednesday nights. When I first visited Back Stage they had a sheriff on the door from Fulton county I believe his nick name was Pittbull and he made sure the club ran right. Even with Cha Cha acting a fool sometimes his little short self came in and took care of any problems big or small. I miss him being on the door. Also the crab night is to die for, the crab legs are so so tasty. My first night there was when Obama won all the votes to become President and I have been back every chance I can get cuz I had sooo much fun I even tell people I know about Back stage if they are new in town or if some of my siblings come to town I tell them that we are going to Back Stage and they have enjoyed themselves every time. I'm still dating the same guy from the night Obama won all the votes to become President. So ladies, Yes the men are there!!! Karaoke night is the bomb if you have talent and would like to perform in front of a live crowd waiting to hear what you got. I did it and won a trophy and money. Go ahead and try Back Stage, you might just like it!!!!!
Hands down, the best part of the restaurant is the ambiance (as if you couldn't guess). I love pirates, so I was in heaven. The pirate ship looked awesome, the walkways over alligater-infested waters were cool, and the wall decor all fit in with the theme. The mannequins were kind of creepy though, especially the one in the women's bathroom. I was also disappointed that you have to pay more to eat on the ship, and the ship doesn't open until a certain time at night. The service was great, but not too memorable. The food was ok, and was pretty expensive. I enjoyed the bread and butter the most, actually. I was disappointed that you couldn't choose the kind of medium you wanted to cook your meat in. I was extremely disappointed that they don't serve any kind of dessert fondue unless you call in advance, and the dessert they serve is for like 10 people. So there's no dessert option for a couple who loves chocolate fondue, which seemed ridiculous to me (but maybe I've been spoiled by The Melting Pot.) Overall it was a really fun place to go to just to check it out, but I think in the future I'd go here for drinks only.
