In late May, 2006, I got a portable storage unit from PODS. On June 1, 2006, I got a call informing me that there had been "an accident" involving my PODS storage unit. This accident was that a PODS employees had run a forklift through the side of my PODS storage unit. I was told that anything that was damaged would be replaced, and to just take pictures and they would make everything ok. I had to keep the storage unit for over 1 year, and it had been shipped to the location that I was moving to, so I was unable to check on it prior to August of 2007. On August 15, I opened the PODS unit for the first time since the day that it was packed by professional movers under my supervision more than one year before. While I expected to see some damage from the forklift having run through whatever happened to be in its way, I found that the damage to my property was even more extensive than I expected. It was apparent that in addition to damage from the forklift that my PODS unit was also dropped -- and I mean dropped from somewhere that must have been pretty high. Every single piece of my furniture with the exception of one (a large Henredon armoire) was damaged, and much of it beyond repair. Nearly every piece had either large cracks and dents or was dislodged at the joints. And some pieces were broken entirely (in fact, one armoire was just a pile of parts). And this furniture was very high quality, lifetime furniture -- not the type to show any damage unless there was a severe accident. Also, two items at the rear of the unit had actually broken through the flimsy plywood floor of the PODS unit (another sign of the unit having been dropped some distance). In all, over $16,000 in damage was done. As initially mentioned to me by the PODS employee, I took extensive photographs of the damage, which I provided to PODS on CD. I also furnished them receipts for all the pieces. Despite this, they offered a pittance of what it would cost to replace the furniture, instead stating that they consulted with a "furniture repairman" who said that nearly everything could be fixed. Even though it was clear to even a layman that this furniture could not be fixed, I had contact a local repairman to come and examine the pieces. After having someone verify that nearly all was damaged beyond repair (not to mention the laugh that the local repairman got from someone giving a "repair estimate" by having only looked at the pictures that I took), PODS offered me their "take it or leave it offer" of 75% of the damage. And even though I am an attorney, I realized that I almost had no choice but to take what they were offering. After all, when you sign the PODS contract, you agree to mandatory and binding arbitration of any and all disputes (i.e. your rights to bring a claim against PODS in a court of law are completely extinguished). And the cost to each party to arbitrate can thousands and thousands of dollars. So, I reluctantly agree to take what they were offering. And to top this all off, the whole process of trying to get PODS to pay for the damage they had done took over 4 months. Yes, 4 months of a house filled with trashed furniture while waiting for PODS to fulfill their promise and to do what any good person or good corporate citizen should have done immediately, without attempting to low-ball someone who was already in a compromised position. PODS is a great concept, I have to say. However, there are far too many things that can, and do, go wrong. I am not even the first person that I've talked to that's had a similar (albeit not quite as bad) experience in terms of having their POD unit dropped. If you choose to use PODS, I certainly hope your experience is better than mine.

    Awesome Service!!!!!

I have used PODS 2 times in the past 5 years, and the service was great each time. The call center was my first step in ordering, lets just say, they must make minimum wage, so be patient......after completing your order, if you have any questions or concerns, ask the representative to connect you to the franchise, I spoke with Adina, in Columbus Ohio.....She sure knows her stuff!!!...from there it was a breeze. This last PODS use, I was worried about packing & moving a Hutch my mom just gave to me, The local franchise informed me that even though when the POD is dropped off and picked up it stays level with that cool lift system, they can't account for the conditions of our city and state roadways during transport. She suggested using rope to secure the peice and moving pads to prevent scratching, it totally made sense!! The drivers I had were careful and super nice! I stored my stuff in their warehouse in Grove City, I had like 3 POD visits there.....let me just say..CLEAN...Who ever is in charge over there must run a tight ship, I love clean! And like clock work my POD was delivered to my new home, the hutch made it in perfect condition, and looks fantastic in my dining room! Thanks PODS for another EASY Move!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it's a great idea and all but they fail to tell you some things that I think you should be aware of. What they don't tell you as you're planning on where exactly in your driveway to have them place it, is that the machine needs 2 extra feet on each side. In my case, that meant putting the pod more towards the center of my driveway so that the lowering maching did not ruin my flower beds on either side of the driveway. Now, I can't even use my driveway as it doesn't leave enough space for my truck to get by it. Also, I got the 8x8x16 pod. Well, it is NOT 8 feet wide. It is abotu 7.5 feet wide and believe me, if you're planning on packing that thing in, an exta 6 inches all the way down the length of the POD DOES make a difference. Lastly, when the guy placed the empty pod down, he was very rough with it. I'm HOPING that he's much more gentle once he picks my full pod up.

We moved a while ago and during the process we had no where to put our items and we did not want the house cluttered so it would sell. This was the best idea my husband has ever had. The customer service was great, they were on time, we would definately use PODS again.

    Very Good

    on time and affordable

We had to put our whole house into storage for 3 months so we decided to get a pod for the convience and it was. They were on time delivering and picking up the pod with professional nice drivers. I would highly recommend it to a person that is on a budget and can't afford the crazy prices of movers.
