While working on my car, the guys a Hayes found that what they originally thought was wrong with my car was not the problem. The real problem was much more simple. The results were the cost was considerably less and it took less time to get my car back.
I've been a customer of Hayes Automotive since 2008. In that time, I've had them work on my '89 Cherokee, my '87 Bronco, my '97 Escort, and, as a tow truck driver, had referred many other customers to them.
Last night, I was driving my '79 G30 Mobile Traveler that I recently bought to Boulder to show it off to a buddy of mine and it overheated on HWY 119. I had it towed back to Hayes by Reliable Towing (review soon to come) and dropped there overnight. Since I had no way to get home at the time, I needed to be there in the morning to fill out the paperwork to get it fixed, and I work in Longmont anyway, I decided to just sleep in my RV.
As I was filling out the drop box envelope in the morning before they opened for business, the manager came outside and told me that "we're not the shop for you", and that I should "find another shop" - after telling me that they could do the work and have it done by Friday.
Even better, he had called the police on me, apparently for not looking like I have enough money. They showed up, apologized for the manager's behavior, and said "that's messed up, sorry you had to deal with that", then left.
To treat anyone, especially a return customer, like that is inexcusable.
I went to Hayes whenever I needed a mechanic for six years, and then got treated like dog crap on the bottom of the manager's shoe to be scraped off - turned away, money in hand, because I appeared poor. I had to drive my RV to another shop with no coolant in my engine and risk cracking my block after having paid $244 to get towed to their shop.
I am very sorry you felt you were treated so unfairly. Unfortunately I was never given the opportunity to speak with you in person about the experience you describe. I tried to locate the customer history for all of the vehicles you describe and was only able to find one time you were ever in my shop way back in 2009. I am wondering if this is a case of mistaken identity? I would welcome the opportunity to speak to you about this in person if you are willing.

Total rip off! I took my truck there for diagnosis and repair, agreed to pay $150 for the diagnosis up front. First they tried to sell me a $2500 fuel injection before even looking at my truck. Then they claimed my carburetor couldn't be rebuilt and tried to sell me the fuel injection again. I got my carburetor back in a box in pieces, missing a piece, and put it back together myself. For this I paid $250. TOTAL RIPOFF!!

Provided by DexKnowsWent to Hayes to get my truck worked on and they tried to sell me a bunch of unnecessary labor and repairs. I drive an older car (04) AND I understand that it needs some love but a $2800 bill??? The thing that really made me upset was they said it needed a new timing belt and i had that replaced 30k miles ago??? Customer beware these guys def. try and get every last penny out of you i took my car down the street to the ford store and saved $1800 dollars.

Provided by DexKnowsI would like to say thanks for the good HONEST job on our car...S80 T6 Volvo. The auto transmission Urgent Service message came on in the mountains. We brought it in thinking that the automatic transmission needed SERIOUS work probably to the tune of $1500 to $3000. You gave me a call saying that it probably just over heated and purged the fluid. It was now very low on fluid. Also, there was a knocking that sounded like it was coming from the front right engine mount or shock. You took the car for a drive and heard what I heard and it ended up being just the spare and jack that were lose. Hayes Automotive had numerous opportunities to scam me BIG TIME. Number one was the transmission. I would have never known that it didn't need a rebuild but only 2 quarts of fluid. Number two was the knocking due to the jack. Hayes could have easily changed my shocks to increase the bill. You didn't. That is very impressive. I'm not sure most other places would have done the same.Duane S.
