RE: Not what it used to be
Dear Disgruntled customer.
I am the waiter which you so kindly made unemployed. I have to give credit where credit is due, and your impressive whining was truly uncalled for. If you would have perhaps mentioned that fact that it was your anniversery as you so cleary made on your walk- in, non-reservation. Maybe it was shame, I should have guessed since you are a middle aged succesfull man; whos wife has the same traits. Maybe you should have taken my suggestions for more alcohol ;) In either case I was sure that you enjoyed the desert you never got to taste. Your daughter I can assure you was already sweet enough. Next time stop by the olive garden where because of you I will be seeking employement and have dees nuts on me.

Best Fine Italian Dining in Indy
Posted by grandma23 on 06/19/2008
OMG, I couldn't believe the review by Expensive and Bland. First, in all the year's I've been going to Sangiovese, they have never had an overweight waitstaff (and what difference would it make it they did - has this reviewer never dined in Italy)! Their service is excellent, their menu selections are superb, presentation is superb, and the actual meal exceeds any other I've had in Indy. With the new owner, the menu has seen a change that incorporates many new selections - and all that we have tasted have been excellent. This setting on the White River allows us to enjoy outside dining (in good weather) or dining in the intimate interior. Without a doubt, this is our first selection for a wonderful night out or when entertaining friends. Their Tiramisu is to die for. Maybe Mr. Expensive and Bland reviewer is one accustomed to fast food Italian where meals run around $5/plate. Sangiovese is fine dining; don't miss out on a fine dining experience. Make Sangiovese your next dining stop!

Mediocre and expensive
Posted by rwruger on 03/02/2008
After our first visit to S, we vowed never to return. Bland food and high prices. We visited again Friday night with two other couples who had chosen the place. Bland food, `portion control` size servings, and poor service again. Drinks took forever to arrive in a place that was 2/3 full. Drinks were small for the price. Waitperson was overweight, distracted, dumb. I had to get up, find her, and remind her after she had served the salads/appetizers that she forgot the lettuce wedge for one of our party. A smallish portion of sea bass for $26?! Bland veal marsalla with a few vegetables (vegetables were good) and a small dollop of mashed potatoes for $18? This place is a perfect Indianapolis eatery as it caters to people who do not know any better and will probably continue to give it good reviews. Tab for two with one drink each = $81 including the automatic 20% tip with three checks/six people. Advice: spend more or less and obtain a better overall experience. Avoid this dump.

Best Italian Food, service, and ambiance
Posted by nikke99 on 12/15/2004
Sangiovese Ristorante, hands down one of the best Italian Restaurants in Indianapolis!
The waitstaff is wonderful, friendly, timely, and attentive. In addition, they made great suggestions on wine to go with our dinner.
The food was wonderful. As a matter of fact, the owner, who is also the chef, came by and asked how everything tasted.
This quaint, family owned, romantic restaurant, was a wonderful experience.

Live band, and great ambiance, great food
Posted by davidparks21 on 02/09/2003
What a fabulous restaurant! The food was fantastic, it's a good italian place. The wine (as would be expected from the name) was good. But most of all the ambiance was steller! They had a nice fire going, romantic lighting, and a LIVE BAND with singer playing, the band was great!
I would definately be back and reccomend the place for anyone!

One of the best meals you will ever have
Posted by ilv2xlr8 on 02/05/2003
Of the top 10 meals I have ever eaten in my life, a few of them have been at Sangiovese. The food is absolutely to die for. I had their pasta, pork chops, steaks, and fish dishes. Their appetizers are also excellent, and I highly recommend trying their goat cheese pie with a nice bottle of wine. My last meal there was a surf and turf with the best lobster tail I have ever had. If you're looking to treat yourself to a great meal and evening experience, I highly recommend this place.

A Lucky Find!
Posted by adilisio on 10/15/2002
Tucked in a strip mall across from Applebee's, Sangiovese is a lucky find with its cozy ambience. The service has always been impeccable, even when we have taken children. The menu is varied, and the food is fantastic. I love the spinach salad, and I usually order a chef's special for my entree. There are usually several available. The prices are reasonable. Dress at least business casual, or you'll feel out of place. That is usually what keeps us from just dropping in when we're in the neighborhood. Also, not many people know about this place, so seating is usually prompt, even on the weekends.
