Milwaukee's Best Kept Secret
Posted by MTK on 04/08/2009
I've been going to Caterina's for years and everytime I go I am always impressed with the service and the food. I love the atmosphere and how I am treated. I feel as though I am part of the family. I've read some of the other reviews and it is obvious that the people who gave it only one star do not know what they are talking about. The food is always fresh and made to order. There are over 100 wines to choose from and the sauces are always prepared fresh and not from a jar.
Caterina's is owned and operated by a father and son duo and if there is a problem one of them is always there to resolve it. Unlike all the chain restaurants, you definitely feel the difference of it being family owned. You get more than you pay...from the complimentary antipasta, soup and salad, to your side order of pasta with your meal you will not find that anywhere else. All other places charge a la carte prices whereas everything is included in the price at Caterina's.
I discovered Caterina's by mistake and have become a lifetime customer. It truly is Milwaukee's best kept secret!!

Outstanding !

We have been dining at Caterina's for many years - and have never been disappointed. Mom's favorite is the fettucini alfredo.....Dad always looks forward to the veal dishes...."my Honey" has always insisted on the linguini with chicken livers - (but has recently discovered
the chicken & pork chops calabrese - and now is always in a quandary as to which entree to order!!)....
and I love EVERYTHING on the menu...!!!!
The service has always been friendly and helpful - even during busy times. You've not experienced authentic Italian food & hospitality until you've experienced Caterina's!!!!

Awesome food.....

The food here is absolutely delicious. I always end up taking my "leftovers" home because I can't go there without also ordering appetizers: calamari is the best I've ever had----eggplant strips are sensational----clams
are the "real-deal"! We celebrate every special occasion at Caterina's - and the staff always makes it
extra "special". They always remember you and treat you like "family".......Now - "THAT'S ITALIAN" !

Great restaurant if you enjoy a good smoke while you're eating. Unfortunately my wife has asthma & I don't smoke so we won't be going back again!!

Lousy
Posted by GoodEats7 on 08/09/2008
I would give this place 0 stars if the site allowed me to. Hands down, this is absolutely the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. Terrible service and lousy food. My wife ordered linguine with seafood and we got ramen noodles with some sauce from hell. I ordered the halibut and got an overcooked old piece of fish that was drowning in Prego sauce. Our waitress was condescending. The entire joint smelled like a smokers lounge. I will never go to this place again. To improve, hire friendly waitstaff and cook decent food.

Great Calamari and Fettucini Alfredo like my grandma made at home!

Very friendly service and we were greated warmly and seated immediately. Reservations are a good idea. The bone in tenderloin was outstanding and the side order of fettucini alfredo was great. Our calamari appetizer was one of the best I have had in Milwaukee! My wife had mussels marinara. Sweet and tasty but not to heavy on the garlic flavor. Our waitress , Shane, was outstanding and took great care to be sure we were comfortable and well fed. Nice wine list with some great Amaroni's. Eating at Caterina's is like having dinner at a friend's house. We will go back to sample more of their menu.

Do not go here

Quite possibly the worst restaurant I've ever been to. I ordered their seafood special for the evening, which ended being overcooked halibut drowning in ragu sauce. My wife ordered linguine and clams. The pasta was undercooked and cold and the only medley of tastes the dish conjured was salty and saltier. I've had better food at the olive garden. However, what really got my goat was the service and the price. Our waitress was outright rude, coming to our table twice the whole meal- once to get our order and the second time to bring us our check. We paid about $60 for 2 plates of heaping garbage.

Great Food

Their veal dishes are just delicious. The pasta in garlic butter is great, although occassionaly not as hot as it should be. Service, overall, is very fine. Their mozzarella marinara is generous and very tasty.

Excellent food...

The food here if phenomenal, but a bit pricey. It is completely worth it. Don't expect to spend any less than $15.00 per plate. The service here is top notch, and the staff is wonderful. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the Milwaukee area.
