Nice breakfast spot
Posted by Mila108 on 07/17/2008
I really enjoyed this place. Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We were seated right away and searved right away. The atmosphere was pleasant. I couldn't complain about the food, it was good. Haven't tried the pie yet. Maybe next time.

The pies are wonderful.

And that's why it's called 'The House Pies'! :-) This is a decent family restaurant featuring typical American diner fare. If you're in the neighborhood and feeling a little peckish, I highly recommend stopping in. :-)

It's called House of Pies for good reason!
Posted by jason2008 on 08/29/2007
If you like pie, like I do, this is the place to go. They have a large selection, although be forwarned that some pies on their list are "seasonal." The pies are really the best thing about this restaurant, which is really more of a diner. They have a parking lot, which is a major plus! I think of it more as a dessert place than anything else. The rest of the food menu is standard diner fare.

Best Pie in Los Angeles
Posted by lwmango on 02/06/2007
The pies alone are worth the jaunt to this Los Angeles institution. While the House of Pies serves breakfast all day and has a lunch/dinner menu packed with American classics like burgers, roast beef, and mashed potatoes, it's best to save room for dessert. Try a seasonal offering like creamy pumpkin or opt for the chocolate cream pie that has actual slices of banana embedded in the filling. Another favorite is their super creamy cheesecakes, topped with fresh fruit like strawberries. You can also pick up one House of Pie's confections to take home, including their pies, cheesecakes, and cookies.

Welcome to the Default
Posted by poppies77 on 11/23/2006
That this place is the default for hollywood diner-mongers says that it is good, but not shockingly good. You'll never leave amazed, but you'll never leave particularly dissatisfied, either. Please don't consider this a bad review, just know what to expect.

Average diner food
Posted by pdt1965ca on 10/13/2006
Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. The food is okay, the place is dated the wait staff is helpful, although not much english understood anymore, but the food is above average with the salads being a true stand out. If you do pie I hear it's worth splurging on their fresh pies.

Although I'm a pure Italian (and very proud to be) I love to live in LA as often as I can as well as I adore to go to the House of Pies as often as I can. Believe it or not, there I can find a delicious cappuccino Italian style with many other "delicatezze" for my breakfast.
If you go there Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays ask to be waited by Alexia: she is the best in suggesting, recommending, waiting and sometimes in listening to your problems!
