The restaurant usually serves good Indian food. The flavors are great. I was disappointed by the lack of consistency with the flavors and taste here. Probably the chef is not regular here.

Used to be great, not anymore...

My wife and I loved the Saffron of old with the great staff and great food. Over the holidays of 2006, the restaurant was closed for "kitchen renovations" for about a month. We had high hopes that the Saffron of old would continue to be as great as it always was. Well, when reopening, Saffron had a new kitchen, new chef and new staff. My wife and I have eaten there twice since then and been very dissappointed with both the food and the service. As a previous reviewer indicated, the flavors just aren't the same and while the menu hasn't changed very much, all of the entrees we tried (tikka masala as a prime example) were flavored poorly and did nothing to distinguish them from the other Indian restaurants in town. We haven't gone back and are sad to see a great restaurant sink to below average.

Darling place, iffy service and poor food.

In a continuing effort to indulge my love of Indian food, it was with much happiness that I and a friend visited Saffron Indian Bistro on a recent Wednesday evening. The small dining room was beautifully lit, the decor simple and elegant, the staff smiling and very welcoming. After a perusal of the extensive menu, we knew that we needed help and asked our waiter to help us choose. We went with his recommendations, selecting beverages, nan, salad and three entrees to share. The best items were the cardamom infused coffee, the rice and the truly wonderful saffron nan. The remainder of our dinner choices were not at the proper temperature and, quite frankly, were mediocre at best. They did not seem properly seasoned, and the balance of flavors was not what one should be able to expect. We made good and polite efforts to interest our waiter, or any staff member, to return to our table to address the problems with the food, but, to no avail. I have had greatly superior Indian food for much less than the nearly sixty dollars we spent that evening. The people at the table next to us seemed to be enjoying their meal. Perhaps we should have enlisted their help when ordering. We won't be returning. That is unfortunate. because it is an adorable place, and would have been convenient for a last-minute dinner choice. Edit: I should have mentioned that the place was not busy, only half the tables filled, and expecting someone to check back during our meal was not unreasonable. There were two tables, single diners, who seemed to be regulars, and they received good service. First time guests should be able to expect the same quality of service. Although, there is still the issue of the less-than-tasty food. I wonder if our experience was some type of anomoly, and not a standard of what to expect there. I'm interested in reading of other's experiences with this restaurant. However, it is still unlikely that we will return. Sad, really.
