We should have turned around at the door when we noticed the door propped open and the dirty tables first thing in the morning. The service was beyond horrible and the host/owner/waiter couldn't keep up with service because of his many breaks outside to smoke with the valet guy.
The food was beyond terrible. They actually use Easy-Mac. Although I love Easy-Mac, I don't expect to be served it at a restaurant for those prices. The water actually spilled water on both the table and the floor and did not bother to clean either of them up.
I JUST DON'T GET IT. WHY OPEN A RESTAURANT

Apparently, I visited this so called beloved spot on the wrong day, at the wrong time. I visited their new location on Piedmont (old location Monroe Dr.) When I tell you there was literally one person unsuccessfully managing a full Sunday breakfast crowd...and I mean fumbling between the hostess booth, waiting tables, and helping the kitchen...it was an utter DISASTER! I could only imagine the quality of food that had been sacrificed, the service that had been completely unprofessional...and the customers that left hot-headed and hungry. I even called to make a reservation and instead of the lone bartender telling me they were understaffed and the wait and service might be unusual, he said, "See you soon." As IF!? I called back just to say I'm never coming back. SO long A&G!

I love this place! Very cute and homey. I've been there several times and once for a rehearsal dinner. I've never been disappointed!

i totally disagree with the prior posting. i recently made my way back to agnes and muriel's and had a fantastic experience. the food was great...i had the bbq pork sandwich with fries...the pork was smoky and moist and it was topped with crispy fried onions. yum!! my friend had the crabcake salad. it was a really big salad, so she couldn't finish it, but she had every bite of crabcakes. the service was great too. i've been here in the past and the servers looked a mess...this is a hug improvement. also the cleanliness has com a long way. i'll be back!

New ownership means a lot to learn

Agnes and Muriel's has always been one of my favorite campy soul food places to take out-of-towners...a boast which was recently betrayed by today's lunch order revealing a dry, diminutive fried chicken breast accompanied by desiccated and tasteless mac and cheese and overcooked ribs. What happened? This is not the A&M's that I so previously adored!
What happened was new ownership, our server related. Though I expressed my disappointment over the quality of the food to him, the response was a suggestion I speak with management, to which I responded, "You tell her." (And if he did, I'll never know...she certainly did not personally investigate). It was only after I was told - some 10 minutes after I ordered - that the signature raspberry and peach cobbler had accidentally not been baked that I was offered two other desserts on the house - a gesture that earned the second star in my rating. That dessert, by the way, some sort of butterscotch cream pie, was likewise a disappointment: pure sugar and no flavor. To top it off, the coffee was bitter yet boring and obviously made some hours earlier.
That being said, the server at least offered an attempt at an explanation, that the kitchen was unusually busy. Even so, any better restaurant would have made a more heartfelt attempt at reconciliation. With all the great eateries in Atlanta, there's no need in my book to offer the new Agnes and Muriel's a second chance, not unless the previous owners come back. If this is like any other day at the new A & Ms - busy despite bad food - its success is riding on the coattails of its predecessors. They better cook something up good real soon or that reputation will spoil faster than ground chuck in the hot Georgia sun.

I had some friends visiting from out of town and took them to this very cute restaurant. Two of us had been before. Of the two of us - they had taken my favorite item off the brunch menu and they had taken her favorite item off the menu (the macaroni bites). Fine. Okay. Streamlining for brunch (their busiest time, apparently) - I get it. However, I found it to be extremely rude that they told us specifically we could not get the items we wanted (and gave us a rather long explanation why not), yet five minutes after we order we see them carrying a steaming plate of the supposedly unavailable item to a table behind us. It was obvious that the other diners were friends of the staff because one of the cooks came to talk to them.

Agnes and Muriel's is a restaurant in an old house that has been decorated with a sort of Jetsons-meets-grandma-meets-john waters film set kitsch decor that makes me smile, though a recent Creative Loafing piece argued for a makeover. I love it. The food is great too- the sides make the meal in my opinion: mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, greens, fried green tomatoes. But this is slightly more upscale southern food, though not pretentious in any way. They also do a holiday menu that was excellent the one time I tried it. A fun place for birthdays or parties, too. And don't forget your Barbie board game and hat box.

Southern food at a fun spot

This place is wild. We kind of felt like outsiders walking in, I felt like we missed a sign on the front door that says local only. Our waiter was friendly though, and once you have taste the food you don't care about anytihng else. I had my first taste of fried okra here and I have been trying to replicate the perfection of Agnes & Muriel's version ever since. The menu is a real southern menu, not cajun or creole, just real southern. I love it.

I have never had a bad meal at Agnes & Muriels. Every time I go I wonder why I do not go more often....the food is very tasty and the service is very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! The atmosphere is fun as well!

This Magnolia Is Wilted! Confused Service & Menu!

We recently went to Sunday Bruch at A&M, the first time in almost ten years. What was once a hot spot, under the former owner Glen Powell and his best friend, is now a has been flower of high kitsch. Still crowded, with those who don't really know better, it's just mass confusion. The menu still has Southern sounding items, but nothing even close to The Colonnade or Mary Mac's. Food is served luke warm, messy, and just barely -well whatever. Don't get me wrong, you can still get a buzz with a very good Bloody Mary, Mary!
