Sick animals

I recently saw a cat online and went to the shelter to visit him. He was in the front viewing area and I spotted him as soon as I got there. I had a greeting time with him and decided I would like to take him home.The next morning I woke to find him drooling and very sick. I instantly called a vet. They told me this is common in animals that come from the Humane Society and to watch him. But, he should be o-kay. Two days later, I now have to take him into the vet. The vet was concerned that he had been in with other cats right after he was fixed and not sent home with any kinds of anti-biotics. The Humane Society will not refund your money if the cat is ill. There were not "Humane" at all towards me or the cat when I called them. Offering no compassion or advice on what I can do.They will take the cat back, but I am out $85.00. They don't refund and only might exchange. Not an option for me to take another animal in a home now after all the cat pee and other things that I now need to cleanse my home of.They say that you have pet insurance and they give you a certificate tthe vet to check the animal out. None of which is beneficial with the situation I am now faced with.I do not recommend the Humane Society in Portland as a good place to adopt a future pet. If you choose to forgo my warning, read the adoption paper work carefully. You are taking home the pet at your own risk.

The worse place!

I know its good to adopt a pet from the shelters we have done this several times from two different shelters.The Humane Society in Portland Oregon is one of the worst places I have adopted a kitten from. They send you home with sick animals that also have worms. They don't tell you the kittens are sick but they are sure to take your money, rush you out the door and tell you that once you leave with the pet they more or less dont care if the animal is or gets sick. Again, I strongly believe that giving a home to a homeless animal is the best way to go, but I would think twice about adopting from this place and if you do be prepared to take your new pet to a vet and nurse them to good health and treat for worms.I am going through this right now with a kitten I brought home yesterday, she is really sick. I wont adopt from this place again!

Love the animals

I've adopted a cat and a dog from The Oregon Humane Society. They have a great selection and the employees are full of information. Me and my husband went here to get a dog and we narrowed it down to three. I think we took turns playing with each of them at least 3 times in the play rooms. The staff didn't try and rush us at all either. It was so hard to decide but were completely happy with our choice. Their prices for cats are great. Dogs can get kinda expensive especially puppys. Our dog was 9 months old but looked like a miniature horse and was a great price. The people here really care about these animals and it shows

When I think of an animal shelter, I think of a small, dark place with animals in tiny cages. This is definitely not so at the Oregon Humane Society. They have a new, multi-million dollar facility that is clean and bright. The animals are well taken care of and most are adopted quickly. It is well run and you can tell the employees really care about the animals. Adoption fees are minimal but existent and the Humane Society's Web site is absolutely fantastic. Why would you get your next pet from a breeder when there are so many in need?

OHS is a worthy charity

In the past six years alone I've adopted three dogs from the Oregon Humane Society. The new shelter on Columbia boulevard is pleasent for both the animals looking for a new home and the humans looking for an animal companion. The staff and volunteers make sure the person looking to adopt an animal will be able to properly care for it. If you're looking to add a dog or cat to your household the OHS should be your first stop.
