Is there any good Greek food in Dallas?

    Posted by ShawnE on 04/07/2009

I have begun to wonder if I will ever find a good Greek restaurant in Dallas. Today I stopped at Cafe Greek at the suggestion of some lovely ladies in a store across the street. As I walked in, I was not sure if the restaurant was open or closed, as most of the lights appeared to be off, and I was literally the only person in the place. After a couple of unsure steps inside, a man came from around the corner. I had to make th first move, "Are you open?" He said they were, and gestured vaguely around the restaurant and said to sit anywhere. I soon found out that he was busy watching TV on his laptop a few tables away. I should know better than to eat ANY food from a buffet, but I decided to eat here anyway. The pita bread was hard and practically fell apart when I attempted to open it. The vegetables (zucchini, carrots, and onions) were over-salted and over-cooked. The shaved lamb and the hummus, I must say, were very good, and I enjoyed every bite of them. I also had some of the marinated beets and onions, which was a bland boring mistake. Even had I eaten nothing but the lamb and hummus (which is exactly what I should have done), the price was well over what it should have been for the effort that appears to have gone into this food. I will not dine here again, and will continue my search for a decent greek restaurant in Dallas.

    Lame food & bad service

I'm not from Greece, but I'm pretty sure that chicken wings are not a staple food for the Greeks. The lame & overpriced buffet featured said chicken wings (like the kind from H**ters), an Italian pasta dish, rotissery chicken (the kind I get at the grocery store is better), & roasted potatoes doused in lime. The buffet didn't even allow you to make your own pita sandwhich! Service was equally poor; we had to chase down someone for a refill on our drinks. When we were ready to leave our bill was at the front counter waiting for us, yet no one bothered to tell us that beforehand. We easily could have walked out without paying because no one was around for several minutes while we waited to pay. No suprisingly there was zero enthusiasm from the almost non-existent staff. No "thanks for coming" or "Please come again." I guess by the time we left, feeling we had just wasted our time & money, there was no point in trying to save the business by inviting us back. Spare yourself the dissappointment...this place is on its way out of business.

suggestion made by coworker...Definitely a mom&pop type of family owned place. The restuarant is clean and staff were nice and attentive. There are a good variety of foods on the buffet, their pita bread was GREAT! and the lamb meat was good also. prob. rate is a 3.5 stars but it wasn't a option price is set a tiny bit high but it is a buffet would go again~
