Reviewers - Thanks for saving Valentine's Day

    Posted by andiecath on 01/21/2009

This is more a review of the reviews than the restaurant. My bus goes past this restaurant every morning and I thought it would be a fun place for my boyfriend and I to celebrate Valentine's Day. After checking out the reviews already written, it is clear that this is not a place for good (consistent) service, good food, or romance. So thanks to all that have written about their experiences - you may have saved our Valentine's Day!

    Fun place!

I came here for trivia on Monday night. It was super fun! I met some cool people and the bartender was great. The food is horrendous, but I wasn't surprised as English food is like that. I ordered a pretzel and it was flash fried like carnival food. Aside from the worst food menu in the world, it has excellent and attentive service and a good crowd. Happy hour is fun too!

    Worst restaurant in Seattle

    Posted by boclit7 on 01/11/2008

This was the rudest I've ever been treated at a restaurant. The hostess sat us at a falling down table and when we asked to move, the waiter slapped the menus down and was snide in his remarks about moving. Then 4, yes, 4, waitstaff ignored us. They made eye contact but totally ignored us. They sat others in the same area and waited attentively on those patrons, but ignored us totally. I will NEVER go back to this cheap version of a pub.

Its a dark hole in the wall

This food is standard pub fair, nothing exciting. the service is ok and the beer is pretty good. The inside is pretty dark and feels quite dungeon like. If you can I suggest sitting on the patio. Mixed drinks are mostly ice so if you've come for a buzz, get a beer.

Fun place . . . Authenticity is in the eye of the beholder

    Posted by malibuhome on 01/14/2007

Fun place to grab lunch. A replica of what a stereo-type English pub.....so authenticity is in the eye of the beholder. Wait staff is courteous and attentive, while most of the food appears so-so (although our group of four only sampled four different dishes). That said, try the Jameson's chicken dish. The whiskey cream sauce was pretty good, as was the Thai Chicken Salad -- pleasantly reserved on the peanut sauce so you could taste the chicken and other parts of salad. Nice list of beers and ales.

great for a pub, maybe not for a date

    Posted by vodkavixen04 on 12/21/2006

The E&C is a great place for work parties or an after work drink. They also have a billiards room below that they let people use for private parties at no extra charge. You can bring kids in if you need to, but I wouldnt say its the greatest place for a date. At night they turn down the lights and fill the place with candles, but its still pretty loud, and its best to make a reservation if it's the weekend.

    Tourists stay away!

Posted by Miranda S. on 03/08/2006

I really cant stand this restaurant. When you first walk up to the entrance it looks very quaint and special. Located underneath the street it has a cute little courtyard before you walk into the actual restaurant. Once you are in it becomes very dark. The food is disgusting! My boyfriend ordered a hamburger and it was very dry and not worth the money. I ordered a turkey sandwich and found that i could get the same dish at Dennys and it would be comparable. If you want to waste your money and time please go to this restaurant.

    Where Everybody Knows Your Name

    Posted by our850r on 01/24/2005

In my case that is... When it comes to the E&C, I've always had good times. Starting with the office parties, to the mid week lunches, to the Friday happy hours mulling the week over half a dozen pints of Boddington with mi mates. The bartenders are well rehearsed and friendly too. I just wish I could have a reserved sign permanently posted for my seat at the end of the bar.

    GREAT PATIO

    Posted by jwoos on 07/04/2004

Went here for happy hour mid week, great value and a really cool 3 level patio. Perfect place for people watching. we had nachos which were good, and they have a pretty big selection of micro brews. I would recomend this place for happy hour and outside dining.

    Fair

    Not authentic

    Posted by uwsid on 01/02/2003

I've been twice and find their phoniness of authenticity the worst thing ... the Welsh Burger? C'mon. Though on the positive side, we went for a big work holiday party in their billiards room and the service was fantastic (even if the beer prices are much too high). Do yourself a favor and go to the George & Dragon in Fremont if you want authentic English food.
