Simple food for simple people
Posted by alhjr55 on 06/21/2008
Submarine sandwiches are basically just another form of convenient comfort food. A french or similar style bread roll filled with sliced meat with various toppings, plain and simple. I probably like to eat a sub every once in a while like many people, but to rave about this type of food the way some do is really humorous. Statements like, "best sub in town", best sub I've ever eaten", "makes me hungry and my mouth waters just thinking about them" and so on and so forth. There are so many establishments offering sub sandwiches, those that offer only subs on their menu and those that offer subs as one of many choices on their menus, served such variety that sub shops are only out numbered by Pizza shops. And like pizza places, all with their own version and style of sub sandwiches. I'm sure anybody can agree that each and every eatery like this has it's loyal customers who will stand by their favorite sandwich shop. I have eaten at the various sub shops around town and out of town. Personally, I find the sandwiches at Giamela's average for this variety (french roll, meat of choice, topped with diced tomatoes, onions and dill pickles. There are other sub shops around offering this same style of sandwich (Santoro's, Matt and Tony's, etc.) They are really all just about the same. Not great, not bad, definately a better taste than some place like Subway where all the sandwiched taste the same and the bread is comparable to a hot dog bun. Give it a try and judge for yourself, the sandwiches at Giamela's are worth eating and the price is fair. In conclusion, there are many great sandwiches out there to sample before concluding who has the best. One last note, if you want to try a truly great pastrami sandwich, try "The Hat", you can't go wrong.

Good Food and Friendly Service

I found Giamela's on citysearch and we stopped there for dinner. This place reminds of a 70's style diner. Everyone recommmended the Pepper Steak , so we decided to try that sandwich and we werent dissappointed at all. It was very tasty and a generous portion. Not fancy , but a good old fashioned way to run a restaurant, Good Food, fast friendly service , Something that seems hard to find nowdays , I would stop back here again for sure.

Best subs on the west coast

The submarine sandwiches are truley the best Ive tasted in california. Try the pepper steak it is out of this world. I'll have to admit though the pastrimi is better at the Los Feliz location.

They've been around forever for a reason!!! Giamella's has the yummiest pepper steak subs in Southern Cali!! They don't have a lage menu, which makes it easier to perfect what they do serve.. And believe me, their subs ARE perfect!

Best Sandwich around!
Posted by emily275 on 12/29/2006
It's true, the sign was off for years and the place always did a brisk business. The sandwiches are delicious. My favorite is the peppersteak. It has super flavorful, juicy meat with some provolone cheese and pickles. The bread itself is the best tasting sandwich bread of any of the delis or sandwich places in Burbank. The service is amazingly fast. If you go and there's a line out the door, stop anyway because you'll still get your sandwich faster than you would anywhere else. I don't know how they do it!! The quality of the food has never been anything other than excellent in the 20 plus years we've eaten there. The only thing I don't like about the place is the dirty customer bathroom. The food is so good though, I try not to think about that.

Best deal on a sandwich ever.
Posted by gavinbarclay on 10/27/2006
This is probably one of the best deals I've ever seen for a sandwich. Lots of food for the money, Tony's has a better deli sandwich but Giamella's is really good and is the cheapest deal. If you're looking for a meal under $5, it can't be beat.

Best Subs In Burbank
Posted by chillyinla on 03/18/2006
They have the best subs. The italian cold cuts, pastrami, tuna etc... are one of the best values for lunch in the city @ $5 for a foot long sub and $.75 for a can soda. The dressing/seasoning really makes the subs and they don't skimp on the fillings.

Hidden Treasure!

Rumor has it that the sign came off the building years ago, but it's such a Burbank institution that it didn't need to be replaced.
I guess that's why I had never visited Giamela's until recently -- I didn't know that I was driving by it on a weekly basis without a sign above the door! My long-time Burbank companion finally showed me the way and it was worth the trip.
The pastrami sandwich I ordered was not only fantastic (obviously created w/ quality meat) - it was made to order in about 30 seconds flat.
Delicious.
Cheap.
Fast.
Service with a smile.
