Not Sophisticated, Just Casually Excellent
Posted by williampickens on 09/29/2007
There are probably only four or five restaurants in Columbia that can rank with Motor Supply. The ever-changing menu is an insurance policy against culinary laziness. There is always something new waiting for you at this, the best restaurant in the Vista. Here you can count on an exciting dish that has been prepared with thought and care. The cuisine is progressive American (I have no idea why it is listed as French here--perhaps the editors can correct this) but the chef seems to trust his ingredients enough to create simple, delicious harmonies rather than overwrought cacophonies. Out of over ten visits, I only had one bad dish (duck which was ordered medium yet cooked beyond well-done and dry as a bone). Every other time I have had excellent meals consisting of wonderfully fresh ingredients. Ample portions & entrees in the mid-$20 range make for a great value as well. The wine list is full of nice selections by the glass, with an eye toward value rather than pretension; that said, there are also plenty of bottles for over $150 on the complete list for the enologically inclined. Go and eat there, soon.

Mediocre, seating issues
Posted by santee on 08/24/2006
I found the food mediocre. At the time of my visits, seating was restricted so that a party of two could only sit at a table for two EVEN IF there were several available 4-person tables. Not inviting at all! At my last visit, I inadvertently left a jacket, called to get the jacket held for my pickup (and was told it was there), but when I got there, no one could find my jacket!

All Hype !
Posted by pacific_heights on 08/10/2006
Can someone please tell me what is good about Motor Supply? The food is fair some days and terrible some days. The wait staff does not know the product they are presenting. The noise levels are completely unacceptable. You cant even hear people at your own table.
Columbia is not a sophisticated town. I think the perception that Motor Supply is a good and/or sophisticated restaurant is all that is needed to make it a reality in the minds of many Columbia diners.

Different menu every time!
Posted by lkopek1 on 01/12/2006
The food is FANTASTIC! The chef works magic in the kitchen. The most wonderful thing is, the menu is very original and different every time you go there. The service was good, but the wait can be very long. One time, we waited two hours to get a table, but they gave us two free appetizers for our patience. Otherwise, the servers are very friendly and know their stuff when it comes to food and beverage.

Excellent but fairly expensive

Food was great. Neat thing about Motor Supply Co. is the menu. It changes every day. We sat outside for lunch, which was nice. The service was excellent and the food was good. The presentation was also good.
Overall, it was a great dining experience. Good food, good service and good ambience makes for a good time. (Throw in good company and you are set!)

Awesome location, ambience, and food!

This is the best place we have found in Columbia. The food is wonderful, the service prompt, and the setting romantic. They change their menu every night, and the food was creative and fresh. They also have a Sunday brunch, which is rare for Columbia! check it out...

WE have been to MS over 300 times and have always been impressed with the quality of food, atmosphere and service. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We love the Sunday Brunch
