Bad service from the minute we walked in the door, to the minute we stepped out. The Mexicans practically beg for a tip, reminding you to 'give 15%.' I can see why they need to remind people, given their bad service they are probably used to making less than average in tips. If they only could grasp the concept of good service translating to a tip that exceeds 15%. The manager is terribly unpleasant, I can see why the wait staff don't smile or have any manners. I had spicy pork tacos which were terribly dry and bland. I applied the table salsa to add some flavor. My husband had enchaladas which were sub-par. Will NEVER go back or recommend this place to anyone. There are many Mexican restaurants on this corner, this has the least quality overall.

food was o.k. service was good. margaritis were excellent. nice astmosphere. awfull doesn't begin to describe how terrible the guacomole was. it was the worst i have ever had. i could not even eat it!! it was the consistency of a milkshake. i think they put avocados in a blender until smooth. it's just gross. no flavor. no onion, tomatos, jalepenos, garlic, lime, or cilantro. i know this is not the way there mom taught them to make guacomole. no time or effort involved. go ahead, order, you have been warned.

Love it. This restaurant has the appropriate balance of truly authentic mealsand the usual standby cuisine. Drinks are good and atmosphere is fun. I eat here often for lunch and dinner and have not ever been disappointed.

Had a date here this weekend, but found the atmosphere rather dull...... After picking at the stale chips and salsa and watered down margaritas we decided to go down the street. Not recommended.!

Just went to Botanas for the first time after going to many other Mexican restaurants around Milwaukee. We were impressed. The patio was nice, each table had an umbrella. We got tons of refills on chips and salsa and water was refilled promptly. The margaritas were super and our food was great. We had empanadas and tamales and both had good portions. The service was great. We were not rushed at all, even though the patio was full by the time we were done. I will definitely go back and bring friends and out of town guests. Highly recommend Botanas for awesome Mexican food!

Worst Mexican Food in Milwaukee

My husband, my friend and I stopped in at Botanas for what we thought was going to be a good dinner. We ordered the most standard appetizer, guacamole. Unfortunately it was very bland, had no flavor and wasn't very fresh.. We had to ask for extra limes (which were dry) to give it some flavor but our attemps failed.
The plates came without basic items (limes, tortillas). The shrimp coctail came with no crackers, lime, cilantro, etc.... Also the shrimp weren't deveined. The beer was cold, that's good. I guess this place is good for patrons who just want to drink and don't care for well prepared Mexican food.

DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT

The past two times I have gone to this restaurant they have attempted to cheat us out of money. The first time, they charged my boyfriends credit card for twice the amount that they were supposed to. We caught it on his credit card statement and complained to the manager. They did refund us the money, so we figured it was an honest mistake.
I was there again last night for dinner and the bill was $69.20 I paid $60 cash and they were to put the rest on the credit card, which would have been $9.20. The man who took our money charged the card for $19.20. When I disputed this with him, he pulled a roll of bills out of his pocket (including many singles, which I assume were his tips, so I'm not sure why he pocketed the money I paid the bill with in the first place) and stated that we only paid him $50. We got the manager involved and he simply said "My employee says you only paid us $50." I explained to him that I in fact had given him $60 and asked him how we were going to resolve this since it was basically a case of my word vs. the employee. The manager had nothing to say and would not refund us the $10.
I know it's a small amount of money, however it's the principle. The man obviously had pocketed the money. On top of that, since we all know this is a place people go for margaritas, who knows how many drunk people they are cheating out of money?
If you do choose to frequent this restaurant, be careful when you pay your bill.

The margaritas are the best in town. The wait staff is excellent. The food is always hot and fresh.
