We have been to Prague twice. The ambiance both inside and out is lovely. Both times our service has been excellent. The owner stopped by our table and chatted both times.
The food is great, classic European. We are great Schnitzel fans from our travels in Europe and the Prague Schnitzel is so good that it is hard to explore the rest of the menu.
The wine list is good and the waiters allow you to taste wines if there is a bottle open. In another case we had finished our bottle of red and they opened another and charged us only for the glasses we had. They also have some great Czech beers that are not on the beer list and are worth asking for.

Cafe Prague had best shape up

This is my 5th visit to Cafe Prague. My husband loves the place. I am more critical. He doesn't know this. Tonight I had Weiner Schnitzel and there was lots of it - but tasteless. Thin as a sheet of paper. How can there be flavor? The red cabbage was leftover. Dull in color (should be bright 'purple'). The salad "was to send back."
It was wilted and bruised - you know: like old. The first few times we went it was superb. I think they are now second rate. Love the patio. Hope they read this and shape up.

I recently moved to the area from Chicago-a town that has hundreds of 4 and 5 star restaurants-and I would put Cafe Prague up against any of them. The entire staff understands service. The portions are large and the value is exceptional.
The wine selection is first class. I recommend that you order any of the specials as the chef is a master.
I read some of the other reviews and must say that the negative ones seemed to be miss guided. I couldn't disagree more.
This is a true gem in beautiful Morrison.

Well Done Eastern European Food

Some close friends that live in the area suggested we go to Cafe Prague last weekend. I was a little worried after reading the reviews here. But, I trust their taste, and decided to give it a shot.
I'm glad we did, the good was spectacular, the wine from their rotating specials list was fantastic (as a matter of fact, we picked up a bottle at Applejack's on the way to the airport), and the food was all fantastic. The sauerkraut soup that came with my meal was extremely well done. Tomato based with potatoes and sausage. Really tasty.
The special was elk, which I really enjoyed. It came with spatzel, a cognac peppercorn cream sauce, and red cabbage. The elk was perfectly cooked, and had great flavor. The sides were also quite tasty.
I also got to taste the goulash and the sauerbraten. Both were very good. The sauces had fantastic flavor. I thought the beef in the goulash was a touch dry, but several others in the group said they would definitely order it again. So it may just have been the bite I had.
The server, whose name I unfortunately don't remember, was very good. He seemed a little dry at first, but I think it was a cultural thing, because he kept the same demeanor the whole meal but was joking around with us, and overall providing an excellent level of service and doing a great job answering questions about the menu and making suggestions regarding the wine list. He reminded me a lot of some of the waiters I remember fondly from Slovenia. It seems he had been there for a while, as my friends said that he had waited on them previously, and they thought he was very good then, as well.
In short, if you are near Morrison, and looking for a slightly upscale (both atmosphere and price) Eastern European dining experience, I would recommend that you not let the reviews here dissuade you from visiting Cafe Prague.

AVOID BEING TREATED RUDE

I have never written a review, but felt compelled to warn others! It does not even deserve a one star.
Cafe Prague was a complete DISSAPOINTMENT. The owner lacks social skills and conducts himself in a rude and disrespectful manner. The evening was intended to be a special birthday dinner treat, instead when I asked the owner (also our server) what he recommended, he replied in a condescending nature, "it is all good" period, offering no assistance with the menu. When my husband asked if they offered a dessert special for birthdays, he replied, ?a candle" and walked away. Then he had the audacity to follow us outside and ask why his gratuity was minimal, he is lucky we even left a tip. The food is just average and too pricey. AVOID AT ALL COSTS; there are other restaurants that deserve to be in business- but definitely NOT this one!

why bother?

We have been to cafe prague twice. The food is good, but service is not. The owner has been rude to us when we drop by without reservations. He has ignored us as we waited at the entrance, and been rude to us when we politiely inquired about a seating.
We are over it.

nice room, boring overpriced food

I love Eastern European food- schnitzels, cured meats, sausages, smoked fish, red cabbage, sauerkraut. Yum. So we ventured to Cafe Prague in Morrison.
Great location, and a charming room.
But the food? I have to admit, I'd never encountered coconut shrimp or sesame crusted ahi in a german/czech restaurant. But Cafe Prague offers them. Hmmm. A bit incongruous? Or just a really good Sysco rep?
We decided to skip the unappetizing appetizers, and go straight to the main courses.
We sampled a few dishes- the sausage plate was fine. Kassler Ripchen (smoked pork chop) was tasty, but tough. Served with whipped (hotel style) mashed potatoes, red cabbage and sauerkraut. Very pedestrian. Roast pork dinner reminded me of school lunches- the gravy just didn't taste homemade. And my "bread dumplings"? Slices of bread. Mmmm, exotic.
The prices are outrageous. We asked to substitute a potato pancake for the mash, and were informed it would set us back $5. Yes, five dollars. Potatoes and cabbage are the backbone of eastern european cooking, and last time I shopped, they were fairly inexpensive. Maybe Cafe Prague imports them? The beef stroganoff is priced at $27. Whoa.
At the end of the meal we had dessert- soggy tough strudel, and salty coffee. Really. The kitchen had cleaned the coffee maker with baking soda, but hadn't rinsed it properly. Thus salty coffee. If that kind of thing slips by, what else is going on back there?
The whole enterprise just feels like a money grubbing operation. Now, there's no shame in wanting your restuarant to be successful and make money, but the use of short cuts in the kitchen is obvious. And what the heck is tiramisu doing on the menu? Bizarre.
This cuisine should be comforting and satisfying, but the food at Cafe Prague is obviously not made with that in mind. It's all about the margins.

Cafe Prague?the food is very good but eat fast and leave

The food was very good.
My wife and I were treated to Cafe Prague by a coworker to celebrate my retirement. It was an enjoyable evening with good company and good conversation. But apparently we exceeded the table time limit, slightly more than two hours. That was when the owner asked us to leave so he could ?turn over the table?. We were not amused.
But the food was very good.
I was compelled to order the Bohemian style duck, something grandma used to make. It was wonderful. The skin was crispy, the meat moist and ?falling? off the bone and the flavor brought back memories. Bohemian soul food. Grandma would have been pleased.
A ?taste? of the other dinners is also worthy of high marks. My wife?s Weiner Schnitzel was tender and not heavily breaded. She mentioned that it may have been a tad dry but otherwise very flavorful. The couple that invited us had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and the Tornados Oscar. Both were equally tasteful and well prepared. The Cordon Bleu was expertly assembled, lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. And the ?Oscar? was worthy of a prime nomination.
But back to the rush job. In retrospect, there were signs that time was running out. Our cocktails were only half done when the Goulash soup (also very good with lean, tender beef chunks and a wonderful paprika broth) arrived. The main course arrived immediately after we finished the soup and and we apparently delayed in ordering dessert , getting some gentle reminders.
We also misinterpreted the waitstaff?s attention..not to our needs but to paying the check and leaving. We never did get that second cup of coffee
This is a pricey, up-scale restaurant. There is no excuse for the owner?s behavior. We were not ?nursing? water and asking for more bread. The couple that invited us has been there before. Cafe Prague owes them.
My wife and I probably won?t be back.
But if they ever put in a drive-up window, I may go back for the duck.

I am surprised at the negative reviews here. I have been to this restaurant several times with groups of 8 to 10 people and have always enjoyed it. The times I have been there the service was good and the food was excellent! Plus it has a very sophisticated, pleasant atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed it. The restaurant was originally recommended to us by a friend who had lived in Germany and particularly enjoys German food.
