    Terrible dining experience

    Posted by J710 on 08/14/2009

I dined at this restaurant in Glendale together with members of my family. We were looking forward to a great dining experience but we were sorely disappointed. The following two issues really bothered me and my family members: 1) Frozen Sashimi One of the things we look forward to when dining in a Japanese restaurant is the sashimi. The sashimi we had was still frozen. To be served frozen sashimi is unacceptable. The fish had no taste and we could actually crunch on the ice crystals. I called the waiter's attention to the fact that the sashimi was still frozen, but he did not offer another order of sashimi, or respond in a manner that was satisfactory. This was very disappointing to me and to the members of my family. Actually, this was just absolutely terrible and dreadful for me because I have very sensitive teeth and I use a special brand of toothpaste because of this condition. Crunching on frozen sashimi was the most unpleasant dining experience I ever had. 2) Personal Hygiene I was in the men's room when one of the restaurant employees just came out of the toilet. He did not wash his hands, but instead pressed the button on the air freshener that was mounted on the wall on his way out. A minute or two later, I saw him behind the soup counter helping serve soup to the restaurant patrons. The sight of him holding the ladle and soup bowls was most repulsive and downright disgusting. I have eaten Japanese food in many restaurants around the world and my dining experience in this restaurant was the worst ever. This restaurant claims that dining in this restaurant would be "an impeccable dining experience." Our experience in this restaurant was nowhere close to what they claim. In fact, it was the most unpalatable experience we ever had.

    Sushi is awesome

    Posted by simigal on 02/13/2009

I have been to Todai many many times. Every time I go, the food is always very fresh. My family is always very satisfied. The sushi is awesome. There is quite a big selection to choose from. Yes, it is a bit pricey, but not for unlimited fresh sushi. It is a pretty good deal for sushi. The ambience is okay but what is nice about the Todai in Glendale is after your meal you can walk over to the new Americana and Brand street. The Woodland Hills, Todai has a much better ambience for sure. Overall though, just talking about the food, this place is great.

    Sushi!!!

Posted by Lolita D. on 02/02/2006

I really enjoy eating at Todai in Glendale. I go there twice a month. I like it because the menu selection is pretty good and there is SUSHI!!! and CRAB LEGS! my two favorite things. I also like the other items on the menu like their soups, their breakfast bar (which is small but it satisfies me). I really like the avocado and spicy tuna rolls. I like everything with real avocado in them. It's a little expensive but that's not a problem if you eat here 1 or 2 times a month. My favorite Todai is the one in Woodland Hills. It feels like it's bigger i'm not sure but to me it's bigger and the selection is good too. I can't get enough of the crab legs and the spicy tuna rolls. Yumm. Whenever i'm in the valley that's the first place we go to plus my friend lives around the corner from there. I forgot to mention that their staff are very attentive, nice, and they are constantly refilling my drink and taking my dirty dishes away.

    Jonesen' for a sushi fix?

    Posted by kikaida on 01/04/2006

As far a buffets go, this one is great. Nothing fancy here just tons of sushi for your eating pleasure. The turn over is huge so you know you are getting fresh items every time. You are guided to your seats, make your drink orders and head over to the offerings which are many. One thing...Don't run or act frantic, it's not going any where. Too many times have I gone there and witnessed people making pigs of them selves. Either by hastily snatching up items, or grabbing massive plates of shrimp or crabs or any other item they deem "expensive" only to not be able to finish it. Yes, every one is staring at them and making comments. The hot tables are very good too for what it is. The deserts aren't too bad either. It's a little costly but for what you actually eat is quite a value.

    Me so hungry

No ambience, no service, no menu but all you can eat! This is the seafood and chinese Hometown Buffet and you don't even have to go to Pachanga Casinos. The variey is excellent and the food is fairly fresh. I think lunch is an incredible value since the "menu" really doesn't change. When you really want to quench the Sushi craving, get your elastic waist pants and go for lunch.

    A buffet lover's dream

    Posted by netter1 on 06/10/2004

People often associate low quality food with the word "buffet". At Todai in Glendale, the food is good quality (not the best I've ever had) but definitely decent. I have to say that it seems to have decline over the last year or two, though. They've added an noodle station where you can get freshly made bowls of udon or ramen. It's one of the seafood places I can dine with friends who don't like fish as chicken and beef alternatives are always on the hot food buffet. The small dessert "bites" make sampling nice and they now offer dessert crepes. I haven't tried them, but it's a nice indulgent choice to fresh fruit.

    Mass Produced Sushi

If you are looking for a place to truly stuff your face, then Todai is your place. Don't expect high quality food, but it is not bad. The prices are high, but when you can eat as much sushi as you want, it's a pretty good bargain.

    ...the staff is super friendly...

I actually liked this place until I got the bill. The staff there was very accomodating and the food was fairly fresh. I like the fact that although the majority of their food is seafood, the restaurant doesn't smell fishy.
