Horrible costomer service!
Posted by CyanSun on 10/14/2009
I went to th Comic Stip a few weeks ago. The show was pretty good, even though $20 entrance and $20 drink minimum was a little expensive.
I provided my name and email address for them to keep me updated on theirs shows and special promotion.
Here is the horror story: the lady from the club called and asked me to give her my address so she can send me some promotional tickets. She said she can email it to me, but she needs the address. I said that I am moving soon and I don't have a definite address yet. She said "ARE YOU MOVING IN THE NEXT TWO MINUTES?" very sarcastically. The whole tone of her conversation with me was very mean and sarcastic. LIke "GIVE ME YOUR ADRESS!"
Well, I liked the club. I was going to go out there more with my friends. But, guess what, lady. You can send those promotional tickets to somebody else.
I hope the management will read this review and train your staff better.

Wish I could give Zero Stars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The show SUCKED !!!!!!!!!!!!! Many comics seemed like they hadn't ever been on stage before! Especially annoying because when I made our reservation, I asked who was on the show and they told me the comics all had tv credits. The waitress had major attitude and seemed like she didn't want to be there. The outrageously high prices make you feel like they have their hand in your wallet to get ALL of your money because they know you are never coming back any way.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS CLUB?
Posted by Dougie on 05/27/2009
Since we discovered Comic Strip Live a couple of years ago through some friends, we used to go all the time and always saw incredible shows with a level of comedians second to none. I write "used to" becasue after the last couiple of visits, we have seen such a huge decline in the quality of the shows that we decided to try some other clubs that we've been hearing good things about. I don't know what happened, maybe the person who picks the comedians left to go to another club or maybe the club is under new owndership but there's definitely a noticable difference. Even the friends who recommended the club to us agreed and they don't go there any more either. There's a slim chance we might wait another year and try Comic Strip Live again but probably not.

Solid Comedy Club
Posted by caos1110 on 04/22/2009
I've been here a few times, and I haven't been disappointed. The drinks are good, but the food..ehhhh....not so much. Eating Lo Mein at a comedy club doesn't really suit my fancy...but hey, to each their own. Usually 3 comedians plus the host who is usually funny...good place to get a good laugh.

Great Laughs
Posted by LisaNYC on 04/07/2009
I went to see a 10:30 show a couple of fridays ago with my girls. One of my friends Loves live comic, me on the other hand never cared so much. I'm so glad she talked me into going because we had such a great time. The comics were all funny but James Smith had me laughing my A$$ off. Our drinks were a bit strong, and thats the way I like it, was worth every penny.
I want to go again with a group of frinds. Hopefully soon!

Wouldn't come back here

I love going to comedy clubs and this was the only one in the city I hadn't been to. We went Saturday night. Let me start with the positive. The entire staff was friendly and efficient. Now the negative. Aside from last comedian, the show wasn't funny at all. Also, the prices are insane! I usually don't mind every comedy club's two drink minimum policy, except when I'm paying the same price for a drink as what I'd pay for an entree in a nice restaurant. Add the pricey cover charge and you have one of, if not the most expensive comedy clubs in the city.

Great Comedy, Delicious Drinks!!
Posted by nykr79 on 02/15/2009
Some friends recommended this club, and am so happy I went with them. From the time we walked in until we left, the energy of this club was fun. I am a fan of stand up comedy, and the comics had me in tears (of laughter), the host was pleasant, my waitress was great. and my drinks were delicious. Like most of the comedy clubs I've been to in the city, the prices are a bit higher than a just a regular bar, but for the performances I saw, it was definitely worth it. I can't wait to go back.

Wish we woud have gone to the Comedy Cellar instead !!!
Posted by finnerty on 02/12/2009
When we arrived, they didn't have a place for us to wait inside prior to the show, so we had to wait outside on the street and when it's freezing out like like it's been lately- or raining out, it's NOT a fun way to start your evening. They line you up as they file you into a small room. They cram you in like sardines into your table. We were seated with others at our table.
We thought we got a good deal when we bought our tickets from a guy on the street in Times Square for $10 instead of the usual $25 per person. That's how they get you- they sell you discounted tickets then pick your pocket with obscene prices for food and drinks. The drinks were around $14-$15 each and there's ALWAYS a 2 drink minimum per person. Sodas were $10 each. Nachos which were only a couple of handfuls of stale chips w/ canned sauce heated up at the bar like in a movie theater were $14 & the room temperature small pizza (for one person) was $17.
There were 5 comedians. The first three were average at best. One did jokes we had all heard via those joke emails that are forwarded from your friends. Another did a lot of audience work where the butt of his jokes were the audience members. Neither we nor the audience liked the first three very much. The last two were funny.
The bill for the 4 of us was $250 (w/ tip but without the usual $25 cover charge per person because, as mentioned earlier, we bought our 4 discounted tickets for $40 on the street). Adding in the cost of the discounted tickets the cost was $290 and without those tickets it would have been $350 !!!
The next day, my friend asked me why we didn't go to the Comedy Cellar because they are known to have the best comedians in the city (and country) and the prices are 1/3 of what we paid here. Plus, just in the last year he's seen Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Ray Romano & Dave Chappelle at the Comedy Cellar! Boy, do I wish I had spoken to my friend before we went here !!!

Best Comedy Show EVER!!!!
Posted by kitty622 on 02/05/2009
OMG!! This place was GREAT. A couple of friends took me for my birthday last weekend. I had a ball. First of all the drinks are huge and strong. When I saw the price I kind of freaked out, but after having it, I was very satisfied! We had soo much fun. The comedians were great. My favorite was the host Ray Ellin. He is the greatest. There wasn't one dull moment during the show. My girlfriend almost pis**d her pants...lol. We are definately going back for my sister's birthday. GOOD TIMES!!!
