    Adventurous...the good and the bad.

    Posted by DrinkJustice on 05/21/2009

The Drink: For myself as well as many unnamed others food is best consumed only with the finest drink available. Pizza Luce offers a suitable if not adequate selection of beers and wine(no liquor). Catering to the local flavor Surly Furious and sometimes other Surly beers seem readily available, recently I have seen Rush River and my mid-west standby Bell's on tap. $4.50-$5+ a pint The wine list offers a variety of small and big house wines at $6-$8 dollars a glass. The Eats: It's not often that your able to find a truly great piece of pizza and when purchasing by the slice even less likely. Americans know as pizza lovers that pie shops all around the country have gone through pains and decades (if not generations) of evolution to perfect the art, unfortunately Pizza Luce applies neither the strategies or apparently the desire. That being stated, how can you really expect a concept pizza (potato bacon, mac and cheese) to be above average when your basic pizza (pepperoni/cheese) is made sub par at best. Essentially my advice when going to Pizza Luce is to go for their happy hour where you can get a pint of good beer along with a slice of pizza for $5.36. To my dismay at $4-$5 a slice (during normal hours) one might be just as well off with a decent frozen pizza and could easily make a pie themselves with more promise. All of the awards and proclamations issued to Pizza Luce by local publications really leaves me wondering if hype makes all the difference in these twin cities.

    Best Vegetarian Pizza Options

    Posted by JenniferIrene on 06/11/2008

I love Pizza Luce because they have many interesting vegetarian options for pizza that is not the run of the mill veggie pizza. Barbeque sauce and mock dock, fakin bacon, pineapple. I love it! However their beer selections are not that good. The only real thing that is worth getting is their signature pizzas, their sandwiches and other entrees can be found anywhere else. The artichoke dip is super good as well-better than most. They have many locations that are convenient Lyndale S, Downtown, and Franklin Ave. in Mpls. Selby Ave. in St.Paul and they have one in Duluth as well. If you like Galactic Pizza you will also love Pizza Luce. Service is fine.

    OK food, HORRIBLE delievery/customer service

    Posted by localcelebrity222 on 10/19/2007

I feel bad because Luce has been a favorite of mine for years. I always order delievery and up until the last few times I placed an order, things went along OK. Not the fastest or the best food in town, but food you can get at 2am. I consider myself a reasonable and polite person (and as a person also in the service industry, a little more understanding of the ebbs and flows of customer service) HOWEVER, the last 2 times I have ordered from this location, I have received, what I believe, to be the worst customer service ever (and in 12 years of waitressing, that says a lot). The first time they said 45 minutes to an hour. That's cool. After 90 minutes, I called and was told (very rudely) by the woman who answered the phone that "it's on its way!" No "I'm sorry" or anything. Hey, I get it. Sometimes things happen but an apology would have been nice, as I was politely asking about my food that I had ordered and hour and a haf prior. The second time, ANOTHER 90 minutes went by and when I called about THIS ONE, i was (again) rudely told that "The driver tried calling you but you didn't answer." When I asked why the driver didn't ring my DOORBELL (as a delievery person SHOULD) he said that since it was a duplex, he "didn't have time to sit there and ring doorbells." Well, it IS a duplex but the addresses are different for each unit, which Luce knows since I've told them this. He then proceeded to argue with me and then hung up on me. Anyway, I finally got my food and the manager DID comp it, however I will never order from this place again. Seriously, people. It's pizza. It's not that hard. And rudeness is NEVER ok, especially to someone who's nice about it. For mediocre pizza and crappy service, I'll go somewhere. Dulono's and Galatic have much better food anyway. Sorry Luce, but you worked my last nerve:(

    Excellent Service

    Posted by graciacalhoun on 09/20/2007

I often feel like customer service is dead, but Pizza Luce is proof that it still can be found. The servers don't seem like they are offended if you don't order a bottle of wine or cluck when you share an entree with your husband. The vibe is fun...like a neighborhood block party. It is kid friendly. The service and food is so good that a few babies crying doesn't even peeve me. The mashed potato pizza is fabulous. It had me eating broccoli on pizza and liking it!

    Really?

    Posted by aught5 on 01/16/2007

i keep finding it funny, that this place keeps getting written up as one of the best places to get pizza in the cities. there's nothing (food wise) fancy about the pizzas. the service is also 50/50. mind you they too have their own style and flare. i have to say i dig chicks with tattoos up and down their arms. no need for a doggy bag, reheating your over-priced za at home is a bland disappointment.

    The BEST Pizza I've had

    Posted by gw17 on 06/03/2006

They have the best pizza I've ever had. The staff is great and the service fast. Seating capacity is a bit small, but it works.

    What's not to love

    Posted by bizzness295 on 11/21/2005

I love Pizza Luce. This location is nice because there is a small parking lot, but plenty of street parking, unlike the downtown location. The dining room is nice and there are able to accomodate large parties. I would call to give them a heads up if you are going with a group. For late night dining, they offer about 4 different varieties of pizza by the slice.

    Artichoke Ramekin!

    Posted by jenjen282 on 10/23/2005

I love this place! I was just there after the remodeling and it looks great. It doesn't look too different, but the bathrooms are so much better! It's still cozy and the menu hasn't changed. The artichoke ramekin is my absolute favorite. I love the unique pizza choices and cheap prices. And they deliver!

    Didn't live-up to the hype

Not bad, but not good either. Would not recommend over some of the other Uptown Pizza joints for delivery. Just OK.
