Where did Harvey's go?
Posted by mpls_guy on 10/28/2007
I'm not one to write a review, but my favorite bar in downtown MInneapolis has gone down the tubes with it's new ownership. It has changed from a great place to hang out to some ritzy wanna be bar. The great drink specials on Friday and Saturday nights...Gone, replaced with a cheap well drink special. Does anyone actually like well liquor? The friendly staff that knows you when you walk in...Gone (most of them anyways). The bar that was always easy to get a drink at...Gone, the bar now has stools lining it making it extremely dificult to get drinks not to mention the tables in the middle of the walk way. The new ownership should be ashamed of what they have done to a downtown favorite. Don't waste your time going there.

Harvey's has gone from best to WORST!!
Posted by mbernhagen on 08/24/2007
Leave it to Bootleggers to ruin the greatest bar downtown. They put in a new floor, some flat panel TVs, and a whole lot of douche. The old specials of $2/$3 anything has changed to $2/$3 for domestics and wells - who orders a well? This used to be the only place to go downtown and have a blast for cheap, but now it is just a lame, out of the way bar that offers no benefit to go there. Come back old Harvey's, we miss you!

Where did my corner bar go?
Posted by pubcrawlla on 08/15/2007
What a shocker!! I hadnt been downtown for about a month. And I walked into the new Harveys, whoa did this place change. On the surface everything looked great(new TV's, new bar, new furniture). So I belly up to the bar like a pub crawlla should. And order my beer & shot. What!!!! 8.00 for a shot. So I pay up, and ask for a menu, trying to pretend I didn't just get robbed. I ordered one of their "gourmet burgers" with fries, what a disappointment. The burger covered half of the massive bun, ten bucks I paid for this tease of a meal. I finished everything in my basket(you get a cloth rolled napkin and a plastic basket??) And was still hungry. I remember me and my friends used to joke about how no one could ever finish their plate, that was the good old days. The beer was cold, service was prompt, but it felt like the neighborhood vibe this place had was sucked right out of it. The servers were especially phony, saying "have a nice day please!" please? Anyhow the tip of the iceberg was last weekend, I was not let in because my "shorts were too baggy." So I guess all the time and money I spent in their counted for nothing. Thanks alot. I looked in the door and was glad I got turned away, cuz it looked like rich suburban nite in there.

Used to be great, new ownership awful
Posted by mexigirl on 08/14/2007
I used to go to Harvey's quite a bit, Pete the bartender is fabulous, and still is, Nate was also awesome, but for some reason was canned. Now there is new ownership and the place now reminds me of TGI Friday's or Applebees or something. The wonderful drink specials ( eg. $2 anything) have turned into "pick from these few lame drinks" and certain shots are now SEVEN DOLLARS!
I would NOT recommend this place anymore. We used to have big parties there and go every weekend. Not anymore. It used to be a fun casual place- now it's uptight with a dress code.

Best Bar!!
Posted by sundaze11 on 01/04/2007
I have to been to Harvey's a million times, and am feeling compelled to finally write a review. Harvey's is always, always, ALWAYS a blast!! My friends and I usually only head here on special occassions, basically, when we really want to get drunk. The $2 drinks from 9-10, and $3 drinks from 10-11 always assist in accomplishing this task! The music is pop/house- great for dancing. Harvey's definately has a bar & grill type feel, with a nice location in the warehouse district. Also, a note on the food, I have only eaten here once- on New Years Eve 2006, and didn't really care for my food, in fact I swear I got sick (from the food, not the drinking). But most of my dining companions only had great things to say.
Overall, I would definately give this bar a chance if you like downtown action, but are a little leary of super-trendy see-and-be-seen type bars.

Harvey's is grrrrreaaaat!!!!!!!
Posted by shanson78 on 01/26/2006
Harvey's is like a small town bar in downtown. The service actually takes the time to get to know you, and if you're lucky, you might actually meet Old Harvey himself a.k.a. Rosie. The people are great, the managers and the staff make one feel very welcome, and you can't beat the deals. The food is excellent, and the drinks are stiff.

Harvey's Rocks
Posted by Gail_Hyster on 11/14/2005
The food here is exceptional and is made even better by the friendly bartenders and waitstaff. Brian the chef creates some unique and delicious dishes. Be sure to try the Cajun medallions, Chicken Won Ton Tacos, Gyros pizza or his homemade mac and cheese. Not your usual bar food!
A must try - better than any other join on 1st Avenue.

Big Portions, split and save some $$$
Posted by megger112 on 09/04/2005
The food was different than most bar food, it all had a great twist. Ordered the doctored up tuna melt which came with fries. It was HUGE! Thank goodness my significant other and I decided to split, because between the two of us we could not even finish it! The food was great, service was delivered with a smile and Harveys had a great atmosphere. I Look forward to returning again and checking out some of their great drink specials and entertainment.

Not like it used to be...
Posted by sksb on 09/24/2004
We went here two years ago for my birthday and were surprised to see that they had $2 any-drink-in-the-house. These were REAL drinks in REAL glasses. Went back two years later, and the drinks are now in tiny little plastic cups. They must have been losing too much money.
