PORTERHOUSE IS CLOSED
Posted by JOHNNY69 on 01/03/2009
THE PORTERHOUSE RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED HANDS. IT IS NOW J. ROBERT'S PORTERHOUSE. ON NEW YEAR'S DAY THEY ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE OPEN FOR NEW YEARS EVE, AFTER TAKING RESERVATIONS FOR THAT EVE. i UNDERSTAND THAT THEY HAVE SINCE PERMANENTLY CLOSED, AND RUMOR HAS IT THAT THE OWNER, JERRY ARENIS HAS TAKEN THE LAND CONTRACT BACK AND SOLD IT TO A NATIONAL RESTAURANT CHAIN. DON'T TAKE IT FROM ME. CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF. THE ONLY THING I KNOW FOR SURE IS THAT THEY WERE NOT OPEN NEW YEAR'S EVE.

I have been to Porterhouse several times when I was visiting Wisconsin. They have great food (steaks) great service and friendly people. My husband and I went to Porterhouse the weekend before Holloween and even though we did not have reservations we were taken to a lovely table.
We now live in Wisconsin and are driving over from Randolph with my mother-in-law who is visiting from Florida just to get a great meal at Porterhouse. It is our favorite place to eat.

great steaks and service...horrible dinner atmosphere

I had dinner with a colleague at the Porterhouse recently, and was immediately turned off by the woman who I believed to be the hostess when we arrived (I later learned from my waitress that she was the owner). Although the place was obviously slow, she made us feel very unwelcomed by the fact that we did not have a reservation. After a bit of the shame game, we got a table nonetheless, and proceeded to have a wonderful dinner. Things had gone well, and just as I had begun to forget about our unfriendly "welcome," our coffee and dessert was disturbed by the owner yelling at a couple of her employees about something I couldn't understand (within 5 feet of our table). I found it to be very unproffessional, and it really brought me right back to the feeling I had when we walked in the door. I understand as a business owner myself that there are times when employees need to be reprimanded, but never to the degree that I heard, and never in front of customers. I gave my business card to my waitress and told her to call when she was ready to be treated with some degree of respect, and we left. The food and service were fabulous, but the hostess/owner leaves a lot to be desired.

great place not just for dinner

Porter House has excellent steaks, cooked just the way you like. I reccommend the New York strip, filet and the prime rib. My husband and I had our wedding reception in the banquet room of the Porter House, and let me tell you, the food was sooo good and very inexpensive! The staff catered to every one of our and our guest's needs! Everyone told us that the reception was womderful. I always reccommend the Porter House to all of our newly engaged friends!

The Porter House restaraunt is a wonderul place to dine. I have eaten there for years and never had a bad piece of meat. The food is delicious, prices good, drinks excellent, waitstaff friendly. A must eat, especially when its all decked out for the holidays....
