dont expect too much
Posted by yomama919191919191 on 07/29/2008
I am the kind of person who loves risky, fast, thrill rides. And being that kind of person, 6 flags rollercoasters were like riding a childish tea cup ride too me. especially the raging bull coaster. Everyone kept getting me excited for the raging bull and when I got on i was ready for the best ride of my life. But like every other ride (except for maybe V2) this was very slow except for the one drop. my advice: dont believe everything you hear.

Bad Security
Posted by uemori on 06/27/2008
Do not bring anything of value to six flags, or leave them in your car. Six Flags has no security cameras in their parking lot and there was no staff in the watch towers in the lot. Had over $500 worth of electronics stolen in our car from someone breaking in through the window (although it was closed). The $20 you pay for parking is decieving, do not count on security to protect/watch your car, or yourself.

Old Information
Posted by Latina1971 on 05/16/2008
The previous writer is correct, there were some deaths on the Edge ride a while back at Six Flags. That is why it is no longer there. I believe that you take a risk in everything that you do but I have been going to Six Flags since I was a kid and I am now 37 years old and continue to go. I trust my own children to go on the rides but I am not saying that I don't worry. I trust that Six Flags does do inspections and will keep going and taking my kids.

Mistaken Information
Posted by jenjeep2 on 04/01/2008
When dealing with any kind of machinery accidents can happen (ie- people lose control of their cars everyday, but we don't point fingers at the road...). That is why everything has a disclaimer and warning nowadays. This writer has her parks all mixed up. A little girl did get her feet "cut off" or amputated when a cable broke and swung down, hitting her legs but that didn't occur at the park in Gurnee. Also you failed to mention why the demon was stuck upside down- there was a power failure to the whole area (much of Gurnee). Rollercoasters cannot run without electricity- that is why they shut them down during stormy weather/lightening storms. The fire department was called, responded quickly, and retrieved all riders safely off the coaster (and yes it took awhile, but no one had serious injuries). Also the experience of deaths on the "edge"- this must have happened at another park also. There is no ride named the edge in Gurnee. Before you write a review on such a touchy subject, it wouldn't hurt to get your story straight.

Not So Great
Posted by kyms66 on 01/26/2008
This park has gone down hill for years. When Mariott owned it there was good food and daily inspections to the rides.
Now the food is inedible and they have problems with the rides each and every season.
A year ago people were stuck upside down on the Demon. Took hours to get them down. Not to mention the deaths on the Edge.
It is thrilling to take your life in your own hands..but when a young girl lost her feet on the roundup..I decided Cedar Point was safer. And Cedar Point also has good food.

Expect to spend a bundle

$15 parking, locker rental, and the concessions add up fast. The rides are fun though. Expect HUGE crowds during the summer months.

Wear those walking shoes!

My advice is to wear a comfy pair of shoes because Great America is huge and you'll be doing a LOT of walking. Get here early to make the most of your pricey admission fee. You can usually find discount coupons at local stores. There's so much to do with all the roller coasters, rides and shows. And now they have a very popular water ride area during the summertime which should be a great time.

Fun Fun FUN!!!!

I love it here. And it is so close to home. The roller coasters are great! Although I think the ones at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio are simply the best.Six Flags has a lot of good rides. From huge coasters to a huge double decker merry go round. Lots of young children's rides also. The carny games are always fun, and hubby wins more than we can fit in the vehicle. Last year we had to tie two of the big stuffed critters to the roof of the SUV. He is one lucky fella I tell ya.The food is overpriced just like you would expect. And a bottle of soda will run you an arm and a leg out of the vending machine, okay, well not an arm and a leg, just your arm. Okay, okay, three bucks and it is yours. They also have an area where you walk under one of the bridges and they have a mister... so you can cool down. That is a really cool feature I think. You will see lots of kids just standing in it til the parents hollar for them to catch up!!They have good food too.Parking is pretty decent. $10 for general parking, $15 for premium... and premium is where the handicapped parking is, and those with a handicapper parking permit only pay $10.If you are handicapped go to the main office which is directly to your left after you get in the gates. They will get you a pass that will allow you to go almost to the front of the line. You can ride each ride once per hour with the pass. The first aid station is very nice. The other year we had an accident where my daughter got hurt and had a head concussion. The nurse on duty was excellent. And they did their very best to ease and soothe her. It's a great way to spend the day.Oh yeah, they also have a water park now!!

Six Flags Great America
Posted by Brian K. on 02/25/2006
Six Flags is the roller coaster destination for the Chicago metro area. The park attractions range from children's rides to top-notch thrill machines, but most of the patrons are visiting for the coasters. Ticket prices are around $40 for a day, but you can usually get a return ticket for less than $20. There are plenty of food booths and restaurants, but they're a bit expensive. My advice to you is to arrive early. When my wife and I visited this summer, we rode the same number of coasters during the first hour as we did for the rest of the day. Watch out for long lines on new rides, too.

Nice place to spend a day

I used to go three or four times a summer when I was a kid, but I only had the opportunity to make it once this year. Unfortunately almost all of the rollercoasters that I rode on as a child are gone, the replacements are bigger faster and more thrilling but I'm kinda nostalgic for the ones I had grown to love. The food isn't too expensive, but you're more than welcome to bring your own (of course leave it in your car). Make sure to just buy a season pass if you're going to go more than 2 times in a season.
