Best pizza in Los Angeles
Posted by gavinsgirl on 11/14/2008
I went to Damiano around 11pm on a Wed. and yes it was scary in that place. Its dark and looks rundown. The service is okay, the pizza is a bit expensive in my opinion. I got a mushroom + peperoni. I must say the peperoni was horrible. I had to take them off the pizza. The pizza is way better than Vitos on La Cienega. The area has horrible parking though.

Terrible, Terrible Service
Posted by KayDS on 07/25/2008
I've been there many times, and they do have great pizza, but it's just not worth it for me to ever go again.
If you go, expect to wait 30-45 minutes before they START your pizza. I went last night, and ordered a large pizza. Our waitress never came to our table after taking our order and bringing us waters. We had been waiting for the pizza for over an hour and were starting to get impatient, and our glasses had long been empty, when our waitress came over and told us "the kitchen said they didn't get your order." She took zero responsibility for the order not getting in, and she never even apologized! When we told her we weren't going to wait for them to START the order now, she seemed happy!
I've long had mixed feelings about whether the good pizza is worth the horrible service and long waits, and this experience sealed it in my mind. I'm never going to go back to Mr. Pizza.

Decent food, but $4 delivery to Hollywood? That's a total rip off in an era of $5 gas.
Posted by aliota112 on 06/16/2008
$4 delivery to Hollywood? That's the most expensive delivery I've ever encountered in over 30 years of living. The pizza is pretty decent, but very overpriced for what you get. Order a medium pizza and definitely experience hunger pains after finishing it, because it's only like 4 slices or so. $15+ for that?? I've never been inside this place, but given that I just read a delivery to Silverlake is $10, I'd never even consider making a trip there, because I consider Damiano's a rip off, financially. I shudder to think of how many bitter, middle class people actually lose money eating this food, and then complain about their salaries. That must be every single customer of this place.

late nite treasure
Posted by dthstar on 03/21/2008
who doesn't like freshly-made-to-order pizza or mazarella sticks? rite?? it's open til late (after midnite), so if the bar scene just ain't happening for some reason, just head over here & eat away your A-game & call it a nite. parking's tough tho sometimes cuz there's only street/metered parking. but when you come late, there's usually some spots rite in front. it's a small cozy dark hole-in-the-wall joint, but food's great&comforting.

DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY (Long time customer gives up)
Posted by FoodieMaster on 02/07/2008
For the record, I was a huge supporter of Damiano's for a very long time. I've been in this town for 10 years and have been a loyal customer for many of those years. I defended their prices, their slow delivery, because they provided quality late night delivery. Those days are over.
Tonight, my sister and I ordered a pretty large order (pizza, pasta, dessert, and an appetizer). We placed the order at 12:45 AM and were told it would take 45-60 minutes. I live in the valley and I'm very understanding of how long it normally takes for that delivery (although, at this time of night, taking Laurel Canyon only takes 15 minutes). I've ordered at least 25 times from them, tip VERY well, and was expecting the usual service.
Instead, we had to wait 2 hours. The food was cold. And they only offered a $10 discount. When we asked to speak to a manager, the waitress said that because we were in the valley, it would take a "few more minutes" to deliver. Unfortunately, we had to do the "angry customer" routine.
While I understand that delivery is tricky mistress, what we experienced was akin to sitting in a restaurant, waiting 45 minutes to get TERRIBLE service, getting cold food, and then being offered a stale slice of pie to make up for it. Damiano's will still get business. The italian food is decent-good for LA (which means poor-satisfactory every where else). However, I recommend that if you want to order delivery, call in, put on your robe and bunny slippers and make your way over there.

Great Pizza, GREAT. Expect long wait late night...
Posted by malasay on 12/17/2007
Ok so there's a long wait yes, but the pizza is so good. The cheese is hot, stretches, and melts in your mouth. Just avoid the vegan pepporoni b/c it's dry and gross. Otherwise it's one of the best ...I know my pizza.

total rip off, only eat here if its the only place open and you're drunk!
Posted by chrisw78 on 12/06/2007
Allow me to start by saying that I have eaten here a few times after leaving clubs and it was a good thing I was drunk because I would have ate anything. We also ordered delivery twice now, and both times got ripped off. I also ordered that over priced artichoke, and it went straight to the trash. The last time we ordered, it took 2 hours to get the pizza and it showed up burnt. I have tried to get a hold of the manager/owner for a week to get my money back and he keeps dodging my calls. The girl who answered my call even gave me attitude and told me I have to reach him when he's there! By the way, his hours are 2am till 6am! I guess I'm the crazy one.

Never going back or ordering delivery!
Posted by puppylove81 on 11/27/2007
For $72 and a 1 hour and 40 minute wait I guess I expected a lot more!
I will not waste my time or money here again, I will stick with BERRIE'S on 3rd St. Consistently good, orders are always right and a HUGE, delicious pizza is $20 delivered. And takes about 25min!
I will never order from Damiano's on Fairfax again! Got home late and ordered a tiny little pizza with tomato, basil and garlic. As well as an Antipasto salad, the Artichoke Fritti appetizer and the Smoked Mozzerella appetizer. The salad was slimey, slimey, SLIMEY! It was just gross! I think it had tomato sauce on it, well needless to say it went right into the trash can! I never understood how a salad can get screwed up?! The Artichoke Fritti, we had one bite and that went right into the trash can as well. I expected what I was told they were on the phone; artichoke hearts simply fried with a mild white dipping sauce. Instead we got clumps of artichoke just leaves (that you choked on when you tried to eat). It was like trying to eat the wrong end of an artichoke, terrible. The dipping sauce was nothing more than melted butter. The smoked Mozzerella appetizer, we were told on the phone was a big piece of smoked Mozerella warmed and served with tomato sauce. It actually is a small piece (little, and I mean a little bigger than a silver dollar) of smoked mozzerella, deep fried and served drowning in a very acidic tomato sauce. We asked for the sauce on the side but at this point I wasn't expecting much from this establishment!
Ok so the pizza is the real reason every one raves about this place I hear...
The tiny, teeny tiny pizza we ordered wasn't very good either! The thin crust was just WAY TOO mushy! The pizza was LOADED with too much sauce. Asked for extra cheese but I think they heard very very light cheese please. So I looked at the receipt and of course we were charged for extra cheese. The pizza was tiny especially compared to neighboring joints.
NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!

Crazy hours, crazy service, and more often than not - really good pizza! Welcome to L.A.
Posted by ixfxi on 11/17/2007
This is one of those restaurants that is open when most are not. Its not fancy, not by any stretch of imagination. Its more like a dump, a hole in the wall. But, it has some damn good food, which is further heightened by your state of drunkeness. You must be drunk to come to a place like this, and I say this in a very GOOD way. Born and raised in LA, Domianos is one of the few surviving pizza joints that actually serves good sloppy pizza - it has a special place in my heart. If you're looking for service and think they owe you something, go look somewhere else. This place is here for the majority of people who want good, crappy, pizza at ALL HOURS -- night or day. I wouldnt ever consider delivery, you're automatically subjecting yourself to further bad service and poor delivery times... plus, you're missing the entire experience of being IN Domianos, watching the LA peeps and freaks come in and out (especially after club hours). Oh yeah, HUGE selection of beers is a PLUS.
