Perfect

The place is the ideal setting for a coffee house, right on the lake. The place is always busy, but service is efficient and friendly. Some may complain about the parking (usually at a premium), but all that means is you have to find parking on the lake and enjoy your lovely little stroll over. Oh, and the coffee is phenomenal, as is their pastries. I also LOVE their wraps! Whenever I'm at the lake, I try to go all summer long, I always stop here.

Alterra gift pack is just old coffee beans in small bags.
Posted by MilwaukeeManAlive on 01/13/2009
I got the Alterra holiday pack as a gift this year. It was just a bunch of dried out, lightly roasted, stale coffee beans. I realize that they have to roast that stuff months in advance, but we're talking Hills Brothers here.
I never get a bad cup or bag of beans at Stone Creek, or Anodyne.

Alterra

They have great coffee and good food, too--yummy bakery and sandwiches. At the lake, it's a nice place for people watching. There's also one on Prospect Avenue, just south of North Ave.

Fun place to chill out
Posted by MaryJane M. on 06/07/2006
I had the opportunity to try an chai and this place. It used to be the old water filtration system and has kept the layout and some of the stuff from it. It is also on the lake just west of Lincoln Memorial Dr so there are a lot of people to watch if you sit outside. There is also indoor downstairs and upstairs seating. There is a winderful view of the lake. As always, Alterra has the best coffee. =)

Relax at Alterra
Posted by susan32 on 02/14/2006
One of my favorite discoveries in Milwaukee was Alterra Coffee Roasters. After strolling along Lake Michigan, this is a great place to stop and relax with fellow joggers, bikers, and roller-bladers. While the menu is limited, Alterra offers healthy sandwiches and snacks, including delicious smoothies.

why alterra sucks
Posted by venusdemilo on 05/12/2005
Alterra has the worst coffee
It's badly roasted, cheep product that they sell for a bunch of money.
People only go there because it's not Starbucks, not because it's good.
They can't even make an espresso drink correctly, let alone one that tastes good.
People should try any smaller roaster, except Alterra, and see what they're missing.
