I ordered an anniversary cake with only 2 days lead time. It was beautifully prepared and delicious. All of the bakery items are fantastic.
Do order ahead and note they aren't open after 3 or 4 most days.

A friend and I dropped by for brunch one day on a whim. It seemed a cute spot in a neat neighborhood. Things started off well enough, our waitress was polite and we ordered. About halfway into our meal, I flipped over a chunk of potatoes to find a whole cricket cooked into my food.
What ruined Devil's Food was their response. I took my plate into the main dining area to point out the problem. The first person I came to acted like I was in the wrong for having a cricket in my food, brushed me off and was rude to me the rest of the encounter. Our waitress informed me that the problem occurred because they were organic potatoes. I buy organic potatoes, so I'm not sure that holds water. And these potatoes were cut up hashbrowns with a whole cricket in them. The cricket got in while at the restaurant. Then they made a big deal of how they weren't charging me for the food (you think!). They did, however, charge me for my coffee.
Nothing like getting a cricket in your food, nasty service and a bill.
The food wasn't magical enough to justify the horrible experience. Just stay away.

I have been to Devil's Food numerous times. I have never been disappointed in any dish that I have ordered--they use (and pride themselves, almost a little TOO much) only totally natural ingredients and it tastes like it. Their spinach on the eggs Florentine is fresh and delicious, the small salad you can get with any dish is delectible, complete with fresh berries and a tasty vinagrette. Home fries are not the greasy lumps of potato you are used to from breakfast places--they are simple and delicious and not greasy. The coffee is excellent. The decor is eclectic and fun--antique refrigerators, sideboards and windows decorate everywhere inside and out. My main complaint is the service here--wait staff are pretentious and not always attentive. I went for lunch with my mother on Saturday and we arrived probably 45mins before closing. It was obvious that the waitress did not want to be bothered with anyone so close to closing--she checked on us once, never offered refills of water and never asked if I wanted salad or potatoes with my dish (I forgot to specify and got what I wouldn't have, had I been asked). I have never had the misfortune to be accosted by staff by my cell phone going off, but to be honest, I've never thought of turning it off or not making a call--honestly! I can understand a no cell policy, but that sounds insane! Unfortunately, I can believe these other reviewers because the staff are quite borderline friendly/hostile (Dr. Jeckyll/Mr Hyde). All in all, it's a very tasty place to eat. There is plenty of parking on S Gaylord and I have never had an issue with a long wait. I would recommend, however, that management and staff get over themselves--they are in a surburban-ish Denver area, not The Village or San Fran... Be kind to your customers and they will be kind back!

Not recommended for out of town visitors

Being very involved with tourism on a local, state, and national level, we stopped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Three of us dressed very casually, T-Shirts & shorts, put in a reservation. The wait was an hour as others obiviously locals (we counted 30) were seated ahead of us. We only stayed and did not walk out because 3 local people were joining us. The food was mediocre and disappointing and the atomosphere with music and people talking so loud.
I would certainly not recommend it to visitors.

Don't waste your time......

I have been here a few times with friends, and a couple times for business meetings, however , every time we find that the food is marginal at best. Baked goods are usually stale - and although they may look pretty, eating them is not enjoyable! Service here is inconsistent, but usually on the snotty side. Early on in my experience with this place, I ordered a cake for a birthday celebration, and I expected it to be a hit.....i was SO embarrassed. It was horrible. I called them to tell them about my experience and they were nasty to me and acted as if I was crazy. I guess the other 20 people that tasted it at the party must have been crazy too. It was overly dry, and hard to even get down. That was the last straw with this pretentious, overpriced, poor quality "bakery". If you are going to act like a superior, prissy, swanky establishment that is too good for it's patrons, then at least have the goods to back it up.

Who kicks people out for using a cellphone? That's absurd. I understand a no-cell-phone policy, but within reason. The owner and employees are pathetic. They must be embarassed to have that job. They obviously take pride in embarassing people who don't notice the no-cell-phone sign.
It's JUST a deli, they offer nothing more than an average deli does, only the pretentious service stinks. They escorted 2 people that I know out of the restaurant and wouldn't let them pick up the food they'd already paid for. They will not let you back in if you use your cell phone. No curteous "Excuse me, we have a no-cell-phone policy". This is DENVER you morons!! Not NYC or Paris! Get over yourselves.
I hope somebody plants a phone on the owner and calls it in the middle of lunch servce.

Funky, fresh & delicious!

I took my fiance here after I received a recommendation from a local caterer that they make really great cakes. After looking at their website (VERY COOL, by the way!), I wanted to try some of their wonderful selections for breakfast! We made reservations (a MUST), and just had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. The restaurant isn't very large, but it sure is cozy! The coffee was AWESOME, very rich and delicious. I would also recommend this place for people watching! I need to go back and try that chocolate hazelnut cake everyone is talking about. Parking is kind of a hassle, but so it is in that neighborhood. If the weather is nice, its fun to walk around the neighborhood and check out all the shops!

This restaurant/Cafe has great pastries! I love the scones and you can also have a cake made by them for any special occassion. It is really hard to find a good pastry shop and these guys satisfy that urge! They also have breakfast and lunch and the food is really good. I really enjoy an establishment that tries to do something different. A must try!

I took my father here for his birthday brunch, and even though there was a hefty wait (it was Sunday brunch, after all) the experience was worth it. Located in Washington Park neighborhood in the Gaylord St shopping area - a cute old-town area - this little cafe has local, organic produce in all of their items and has an on-site pastry chef. I cannot eat wheat, so needless to say I was a little hesitant, but here's the kicker: they have a gluten-free flourless milk-chocolate hazelnut cake as a standard menu item. I was in heaven. The service was fast and friendly, the coffee and tea selections are too numerous to count, and the artwork was awesome. I will definitely be returning on my birthday for more of that cake...
