This was a fun experience to have with our group of friends. We dressed for the 1940's and enjoyed the murder mystery. The script was a bit hard to follow and no one was able to figure it out, but that aside, it was fun to hear that blood curdling scream when the "murder" took place.
The food was good and high quality when I was there. I recall it appeared made from scratch and came in several courses.
The house is very old and I feel in some ways could have been a little cleaner or better renovated, however, the creepy history and stories add to the charm. It is not in the best of neighborhoods... I suppose I was expecting the house to be a bit secluded on some land, but it is not. Breakfast the next morning was also enjoyable. The hostess tends to tell some racy and uncomfortable stories, but I think she's just trying to loosen up her audience as some feel a bit uptight from possibly seeing or hearing ghostly things during the night.

Overall

Boring and overpriced. During the Murder Mystery, everyone remained seated and read from a script. We all spent most of our time just looking at each other. No acting, drama nor did we even get to try to figure out who the murderer was. The dinner meal was too salty and overcooked. Our room had no heat! We went with friends and their room was too hot. It was 90 degrees in their room. The management was very rude. Because we had no heat in our room, we had to go home that night instead of spending the night. Stone Lion Inn gave us credit for the room to be used within one year. We tried to do that but they were occupied every time we asked about it. We, also, had family illness and my brother was in the hospital then died of cancer so we weren't able to try to use the credit for several months. I called and asked if the credit of the room could be extended for one week (for the first week of December, 2014) and I was told no. I explained that we'd tried to use it but they were always booked up then my brother became ill and we were busy with helping his family. We didn't understand why the room credit couldn't have been extended for one more week so we could use it. We didn't understand why it couldn't have been extended for one more week so we could use the room credit instead of losing it. So we ended up paying for a room in the Stone Lion Inn which we didn't use due to no heat in our room.

Bad Business Practices! Does Not Honor Coupons! Rude Management!

I was so excited to go to Stone Lion Inn and experience the theatrical uniqueness that this business offers. I purchased a Living Social Coupon online to get a seven course meal and murder mystery. My coupon was going to expire in two weeks and I called to make the reservation for my husband's birthday. They told me that they had no openings between now and when it expired and that they would extend the expiration if I paid extra to stay in a room there too! I said that I should not lose my money because they could not accomodate me and asked to speak to a manager.

The person that came to the phone was even more rude than the first person. She was arguing with me and trying to make it my fault for not calling sooner to make the reservation! I told her that it doesn't matter that the coupon was purchased six months ago, it doesn't expire for two weeks! With Living Social, the business owner chooses how long the coupon is good for and that was their choice to set the expiration date that far away. After she refused to offer me some consolation, I said "I don't know what to tell you, this isn't right." And she said "I don't know what to tell you" in a nasty voice, absolutely refusing to accomodate me. She told me to call one of the owners when they get back from vacation.

I was furious by then at the terrible business practices that these people use. I own a small business and have advertised on Living Social more than once. I do have customers that ask for extensions on their coupons and give me all kinds of excuses. Unless the request is ridiculous, I do what I can for the people and more often than not, I extend the expiration for them. If the person waits until after it has expired to call, I usually don't honor the coupon. I certainly don't try to force more money out of them before their coupons have even expired! GREEDY!!!

From the business's stand point, they already had my money. If they had just accomodatd me, I would have spent more money while I was there at their facility and probably come back again and referred others to the business. I can't believe that they treat customers in such a cold hearted way and still are in business! Obviously they have not learned that one key to a successful business is to treat your customers right, because word of mouth is the most important form of advertising! I find it hard to believe that they could not have found a two hour spot on their calendar for my husband and I to have had dinner. It's just two people at a table for goodness sake!

I was not surprised to see another review on here mentioning how cold and unkind they were. You are offering a theatrical entertainment show, Stone Lion Inn!! You should know even more than other businesses that part of the performance includes making your customers feel good and appreciated! It will not matter to me if the owners call after the fact and apologize because the person I talked to was acting as the authority and how they allow her to act in their absense is shameful. For the record, Living Social was wonderful and they apoligized up and down for the mistreatment and offered me a refund or credit for the total amount spent. So take my advice people and don't waste your time driving all the way to Guthrie to be treated like dirt by these greedy people! There is a murder mystery dinner theatre right here in OKC called whodunit dinner theatre. www.whodunit.net

Awesome Experience

We stayed there Saturday June 12th & 13th . We attended the murder mystery party on one evening and the Pollard Theatre on the other. Everything was outstanding! Anyone with any complaints obviously has no appreciation for authenticity or history, and would probably be more at home at a motel 6. I plan to come back another weekend. Some good shopping in the historic district. OK, here’s where it gets good. Saturday night after the murder mystery dinner, (really funny, we went to the graveyard for a pretend Memorial Service for Elmer McCurdy; it’s a true story), we were ready to go to bed around 12:30am and there was a paranormal team upstairs with some awesome equipment set up. They were very nice and explained everything. They had an infrared camera set up in the hallway wired to a laptop in there room. We couldn’t believe our eyes at what we saw, ORB'S! little balls of light flying around everywhere! And one of the guys left a recorder going in his room, and when he reviewed it, he heard a child singing something, and there were no kids at the hotel that night! Needless to say after finally getting to bed, it took us a bit to get to sleep...lol CAN’T GET THAT AT THE HAMPTON! I look forward to our next stay.
