The Scene
In a town where beauty reigns, the Mondrian Hotel is royalty--with spare, serene elegance and attitude to match. In keeping with the hotel, the Agua Spa is more about looks than substance. Gauzy white curtains--rather than walls--separate the half-dozen treatment rooms. While ethereal in their beauty, these serve no purpose in a space that should provide quiet and privacy. The locker area is composed of a dozen white-metal high school lockers and basic amenities such as razors and shaving cream.
The Services
Despite voices and footsteps, a degree of relaxation is still possible. Skilled technicians provide a variety of treatments including hot stone, facials, aromatherapy and the poolside Balinese massage. Those tempted to indulge in a 90-minute custom massage may appreciate the time devoted to soothing muscles with smooth Swedish strokes punctuated by pinpointing knots and trouble spots. But be warned--the last 20 minutes may be wasted by a bored masseuse.
